I am hearing reports of a shooting by airport road. Can anyone confirm?

Believed to be a sniper. Nobody was hurt but a few vehicles were shot up.

It’s a “real” airport in the sense that there’s a runway, hangers, and multiple commercial operators flying in and out every day. But yes, it is primarily a heliport for offshore traffic.
There’s more traffic in and out of that place than a LOT of municipal airports, FWIW.

That’s not a sniper. That’s T-Baw Cheramie got a new .270 and is trying that out before the season.
ETA: he’s in the swamp, they are not going to catch him.
