Oh, yeah, the spiritual part. That is a different story.
Ain't shite spiritual about the legal part.

I’m pretty happy that my divorce didn’t cost as much as it could have

I agree with you. Too many tactical strategies and planned avoidance once attorneys are involved. All to benefit them.

I got to be a spectator to a religious divorce (not catholic/christian) and trust me that will make people think twice about divorce.

Hell no. Mine only cost me 350

As a person who has went thru a divorce, I can truly admit the lawyers are the dregs of our society. God help you if child custody is an issue! Your own lawyer will call to "check on you", then bill you for the phone call. Ever wonder why so many lawyers go into divorce and child custody law? Lots of money to be made, with no regards to the outcome. Either way, they get paid. I have more respect for personal injury, ambulance-chasing attorneys.

Personally, I think divorce is one of the most selfish things a person can do. Unless there is physical, verbal, or mental abuse --- or drug or sexual abuse --- or blatant disregard of your marriage vows (adultery), the two people that initially were agreeable to one another should be able to set aside their egos and hurt feelings, and truly listen to one another to attempt to work it out. If you think it's going to be easier with another person, you are mistaken. Everybody brings their own shite to a relationship and unless you fix your own shite, you will continue to be in a shite relationship.
A friend of a friend is a devout Catholic and doesn't believe in divorce. She and her husband haven't shared a roof in more than ten years and in fact he lives in another state. But hey, at least they haven't broken their marriage vows.

Louisiana should get out of the marriage/divorce business. As all government should.
Exactly.

Those are 2 different things.
Community property isn't affected by fault, and almost assuredly wouldn't be by eliminating no fault divorce.
Fault only affects permanent spousal support.

It's an easy area for the lowest level of attorney to be able to practice.
I typically tell my clients that the population of divorce lawyers is stratified into 2 groups: the cheap option that's the literal lowest level of attorney, and the expensive option that has very good/capable attorneys, but will run 5-figures, minimum (most here require a 7500-8000 initial deposit).

I also tell my clients this.
I do primarily uncontested or lightly contested divorces and I almost always suggest they go to a mediator before filing to see what can be worked out for a few hundred dollars. The ones who are able (it takes 2 to tango) pretty much never regret it.

Why
Because the wife can be a drug using cheater and the husband ends up paying her after the divorce. She was obviously "at fault" but it doesn't matter in Louisiana.

I considered going into mediation after my Bachelors. They make pretty good money but they see a lot of burnout.

Marriage should just be treated as a contract between two adults

divorce and partition are two different things. the punishment for being at fault is you cannot collect spousal support. fault has no effect on ownership, and rightfully so.
i know redneck dow operators scream "she cheated and got half my shite." The truth is that she got her half of the shite.

The state of Louisiana punishes men no matter the divorce situation.
Until men get equality and fair treatment in divorce courtrooms, the entire system can suck it.

The divorce should be agreed to before marriage... just like how to dissolve a business when it starts. So, agree to what happens in adultry... agree to custody before kids... agree to any scenario you can foresee arising. The two people are the most loving and giving at that point... this might actually reveal more about your future spouse than you thought. Unfortunately this isn't happening, but it should.
