wonder who did the site survey for amazon and told them it was a good idea to build there?

The site is absolutely MAGNIFICENT for Amazon's business model.

-On the intersection of two U.S. Highways
-Easy access to two interstates
-Easy access to an airport
-Easy access to a deepwater port on one of the most economically important rivers on the planet
-Lots of rail infrastructure nearby due to said port
-Over a million square feet of existing building under roof that can easily be cleared out and converted to warehousing due to the large number of truck loading docks already present in the building.

The problem with the site is that it's in Louisiana so Amazon has to deal with Louisianians and their corrupt public officials.

I like that Dillard’s. I’ve gotten some really nice clothes for stupid low prices. I do think they should sell, though. I’m sure they could relocate. Amazon would be a good boost to Baton Rouge.

Time to stop shopping at that Dillards then. Make it harder for them to justify holding onto that location.

And this goes for everyone, not just you.

Dillards are the dumbasses? They are keeping Amazon, a direct reason for losses they have endured the past 5-7 years from opening up a huge fulfillment center.

I'd say Dillards is going to make Amazon pay a steep price for that property. Well done move, giving the competitor the finger, on something they want.

Well, they complain about nobody wanting to invest, and then when they do invest they complain about gentrification. I just think it's funny.

Sooner or later, that Dillards brick and mortar store is going to shut down eventually as online retail gets stronger and stronger. It's a building in a dead mall in the middle of the ghetto. They're going the way of Sears. It's inevitable at this point.

What good is the middle finger to Amazon if you get no money out of it and your company keeps losing money while Amazon keeps getting stronger?

Just cut your losses and move on.

An area that needs revitalization is blowing a huge project because Dillard’s discount refuses to budge

Nope. The amount of money they are willing to pay Dillard’s to move is too small.

Sounds like it's already fallen through unless Amazon is just playing hardball. They cancelled their purchase agreement on Virginia College which is one of the anchor stores.

Because it's basically perfect location for this particular project.

I'm sure both sides are already playing hardball. That's what "leaks" usually means.

But why? Has anyone been through there? What reason do you have to think there’s any hope for that area?

It wasn’t always like that. It used to be a very happening place. It can be that again.

I’m sorry for being rude, but I will sit in hours of traffic rather than traversing that area. It’s disgusting.

It’s bad because no one is around to take care of it. Put a massive Amazon distro center, and that could change.

I remember as a kid going there to that mall. It was awesome! We always ate at either the Chick-fil-A, or the Taco Bell. Hell every pair of shoes I got prior to the new school year came from that mall. So many fun memories.

Then one day we go to get in our car and some “culcha” runs up and borrows our purchases along with my mom’s purse.

I say let it, and them, rot.
