So some reporters are putting a digital tip jar on their articles.

I have to say I appreciate their hustle if people are willing to tip them but tip culture in America is out of control. It used to be just for jobs like waitressing where the service can vary and if you got better service you tipped more to reward that. Then it became well tip your waitress well no matter what because you don’t know if they’re having a bad day or something. Now it feels like tons of other businesses are getting in on the tipping.
I was reading the forbes article in the thread on Chicago and noticed the reporters profile at the bottom. She has a link to send her a “secure tip”.
A writer for forbes is angling for tips. I guess again there’s not really any issue with this and I respect the hustle if people will willingly give you more money but I can’t help but roll my eyes that reporters are holding a tin cup out for spare change when America’s confidence in them is probably at the lowest it’s been in generations.

There is no way in hell I'm tipping a journalist. Absolute scum of the earth, every one of them, just slightly more trustworthy than politicians.

Are you sure it means a monetary tip and not a tip on a news scoop?

They can get the digital tip of this dick

Most of these frickers are so bad at their job that they shouldn't even get a salary much less a tip.

Does this reporter actually work for Forbes as an employee or is he/she a freelancer? The journalism industry has changed so much over the last 10-20 years so many of them are now freelancers. They get paid for the article/column, but have to foot their own travel expenses. Sometimes they're reimbursed, sometimes they're not.

Gracious, Will Sutton of the T-P will probably be the journalist version of a Park Avenue doorman or Ruth's Chris server.

I worked in the industry for 10 years... reporters don't make shite. There is a reason many journalists and reporters you see on the news are attractive women, its because you can't pay the bills with the salary they make so they marry rich guys who can foot the bills so the reporting job is just side income.
Seriously our reporters in San Diego made $45k a year... that is poverty in San Diego. How can you make it? You can't, so you better hope you can find a guy to marry to foot the bill.
The reporters at the station I worked at in Louisville made $35k and the station in Cedar Rapids they made $22k.
It's a highly competitive field so the lowest bidder gets the job.

Sounds ridiculous, reporters (excluding some sports reporters) are liberal scum, but this could work out to be a good thing.
The people who reporters give every prop possible, even when they are scurrilous criminals, never tip. Suppose your garden variety, slimy, anti-American, bitchy little cucky reporter started getting tips for speaking out for truth, justice and the American way, well their punditry might take a change for the better.

Yep. Everyone wants good reporting, but no one wants to pay for it.
Reports might look desperate for the digital tip jar, but it's trashy to bitch about paywalls.
I have certainly changed my opinion on this. News articles and such aren't free to produce, we need to reevaluate how we consume the info.

Come on baw, no love for the hard working strippers out there?

They want a tip?
Plant your corn early for a good crop.

Finally realizing their useless journalism degrees are barely a step above hustling for tips. At least waitstaff actually provides something of value to the public.

I will tip / subscribe to independent journalists who are doing real work and are not bought and sold via corporate media.
I'd also do so for local journalists for similar reasons.

Is there a negative tip button that makes them pay you for reading their shite article?

They are taught the ropes in Journalism school. The yknow what it pays. They should have gotten a degree in AA studies, or Women's studies. Oh wait, those pay nothing either. STEM is where the money is.

If the average a-hole on the OT can write better articles than you can, maybe the tip jar is a bit presumptuous of your journalistic talent and worth.
