Google Maps and a sign on the road, says it's here in Venice:

LINK

If you look at the map, though, you see you can clearly get further south by car in Port Fourchon.

What gives here? Why the people in Venice making shite up like this?

Venice has the MSM in their back pocket.

No other explanation.

Venice sticks out further into the GOM than Fourchon does

Either they are wrong, or it's an issue with distortion of the map in representing a globe. What is the point of latitude for both?

It juts out Southeast, though. That end of the road point there that's supposedly the furthest south in La. is still north of the end of the road in Fourchon. You can confirm it on Google Earth.

Could be...I'm using Down the Bayou Charters as the end of the road but I see there's a Cheveron Tank Farm a little further south

They are wrong according to Latitudes on Google Earth.

They very end of the pavement at that sign is at N29°13'53.13"

The end if the road in Fourchon at the barricade before the old bridge is at N29°06'44.53"

In fact on LA1 everything west of the GI police dept is also further south than that point in Venice.

Ok take the gravel road all the way to the end at that old helipad, Fourchon is still significantly further south

I love this thread, that we are all bonding on this lovely Friday morning over which little bit of the Louisiana cost is objectively further south than the other
