Termite control and bathtub access

Had someone come out to give us an estimate on retreating our home as well as an estimate for annual termite services.
He said they'd need to "cut a hole for access" in my son's room into the bathroom as it's just a "regular" tub and has no access panel like my jacuzzi tub does.
Is this normal?? Neither house that I've ever owned had access until this one (this is the first one with a jacuzzi tub). He said that if they don't do it we have to sign a waiver so that if the Ag Dept comes to randomly inspect our house, the company would have the waiver on file so that the Ag Dept would know that they were doing their job correctly.
Does this sound right??? I'm really confused.

Pretty sure if your home is on a slab they will need access to the drain area. They usually leave a 12x12 opening or such when pouring. That will allow possible access for termites.

No company we've ever used has EVER asked about this. I'm wondering if those companies didn't do their job or if this guy is BS.

There is a hole where the trip lever waste goes down to the p-trap. We usually put tar in there to stop the termites from coming up. It is a direct path from the dirt under the slab into the home..

Yeah, they have to treat opening in slab. They'll put vent cover over hole in wall.

I did termite work while in college. Behind your tubs is open dirt. We always put trap doors to spray behind them.

well then they aren't very good. There needs to be a visual check by the bath tub because that is where they will get into if wet. Figure it out. Install a doggie door that can slide closed or try to find another company. Terminix made me do it

We have one on the backside of each tub drain. Closet and hall.

Thanks all ... I seriously thought this guy was nuts. We've owned homes for 23 years and this has NEVER been asked. Guess the shower in my bathroom needs one as well?

Yes you need to treat the drain area on a tub/tub shower unit/shower.
The plumbers typically use a 12x12 plastic tub as a drain rough in through the slab for the trap at the drain.
The termite service typically cut a hole in the sheetrock and install an access panel so they can treat the exposed soil. On a whirlpool tub they can pull the access panel or remove the drain valve assembly to gain access for the treatment solution.
If your termite guy does not address these areas he is a hack.
Typically these areas would only be treated at initial service and at the 5 yr checkup. They typically would not treat these areas on the annual treatment as the chemical is not being diluted by outdoor rainfall in the interior of the home.

We bought this home in July 2014 ... we did NOT have termite treatment last year (bad time with the move and husbands job and we just never did it .. our bad for sure).
BUT this company who came out today is who serviced this house for the prior homeowners. I found the "inspection" sheet and where it says "traps" it's marked YES while there is clearly only 1 in the jacuzzi tub.
There is no notation of them recommending traps before to the previous home owners.

I did a ton of home inspections in New Orleans after Katrina on gutted homes. Almost all homes has some termite damage around the slab openings in the bathrooms...

Terminix tech mentioned the same thing when they first treated our house for termites. I asked if it was mandatory for the termite contract and he said no. We continued in such fashion until we sold the house. Same thing in our current house. No access for tubs and we are under contract with Terminix.
ETA: I forgot to mention that our current house is 10 feet off the ground. So different situation than previous house.

I've got two access panels in my home for this exact thing. So did my parents. Very normal. They'll put a panel over the hole.

I'm guessing I owe the dude an apology. I flat out said "I don't want any holes in my walls" and when he tried to set up an appointment time to bring the estimate back (I was having to leave) I politely told him to call my husband. (I did call him and he was like WHAT??? when I told him about the trap.)
I guess I learned something today!

totally legit. need to treat around the drains.
Posted on 8/26/15 at 6:29 pm to tiger91
Absolutely correct.
The fact that they're paying attention to this shows they know what they're doing, unlike Fischer Enviromental.
