The "young lady" he admitted having "inappropriate sexual behavior" with turned out to be a 12-year-old girl

quote:

Prominent members of Gateway Church continue to resign or step down following child sex abuse allegations against former senior pastor Robert Morris, who publicly admitted to having "inappropriate sexual behavior with a young lady" 35 years ago.

Morris resigned from the Texas megachurch in June, four days after 54-year-old Cindy Clemishire went public with allegations that the pastor began molesting her when she was 12 and he was 21. Though he downplayed them, Morris acknowledged the allegations.

A month after Morris' resignation, his son and daughter-in-law, James and Bridget Morris, stepped down as pastors of the Dallas-based church. And on Wednesday, the church's leadership announced that executive pastor Kemtal Glasgow resigned due to an unspecified "moral issue" that "disqualifies him from serving."

Here's a link to the story about the pastor who resigned yesterday over an apparently unrelated moral issue. He makes #4 since June

Is that blackmail?

Someone should just do us all a favor and end the guys life.

Well, if that 12 year old got pregnant today with other church elders, she would be forced to give birth because it's better to force her because the pastors know best.

What a terrible thing for a 12 year old to have to suffer.

Hmmmmmmm.

Robert Morris admitted to it.

"It was kissing and petting and not intercourse, but it was wrong," Morris, 62, said in a statement to local Dallas news station WFAA-TV. "This behavior happened on several occasions over the next few years. ... Since that time, I have walked in purity and accountability in this area."

I’ve known some good men that were pastors, but I’ve also gotten some weirdo creepy vibes from more than a few.

I'm surprised it took the OT this long to pick up on this one. My wife and daughter(no pics,) go to that church and love it. I refuse to go there. The first time I ever saw him/heard him speak he just oozed sleaze and snake oil salesman to me. And tell me how a preacher of a church is worth upwards of $117 million? And his estimated net worth has increased since he "resigned."

I haven't sexually assaulted any children lately.

Sadly, this happens all across organizations where people in positions of power have access to children. Protecting children, not the reputation of any adult or any organization, has to be the top priority.

I don't think he had any real power at the time, he was kind of like an intern, brand new preacher, living with the the family of the vic(along with his wife.)

If he was fricking around with a 12 year old when he was in his 20s, there's almost certainly others.

Anything in particular?

I don't know Jeffress personally, but I have a good friend who actually served on that staff back in the day (under Criswell, not under Jeffress). He knows Jeffress personally and speaks highly of him. Jeffress kind of rubs me the wrong way, but I've never heard anything scandalous about him.

I have the same thought. Seems like almost everything wrong with the modern church is related to size.

nothing but fraudulent, tax dodging scams, it is so scripted and choreographed, and zero programs similar to "conventional" churches, I think in order to be a member there you have to sign up for payroll deduction through your employer so that your tithe goes to them before you even get paid, I've just heard this though, not confirmed.

Most of those mega churches are centered around how much money they can bring in. That's always going to be ripe for abuse.
