With state inspections going away in Texas does that mean, even though we have to get an emissions test would we still have to have a sticker on our windshield?

Sidenote, would Louisiana ever do away with state inspections and just roll the price into the registration the way Texas is doing

I just got a new one in Montgomery county, I thought I wasn’t going to have to last year and apparently still did this year, when does it actually go in effect?

Bexar County (starting 2026)
Brazoria County
Collin County
Dallas County
Denton County
El Paso County
Ellis County
Fort Bend County
Galveston County
Harris County
Johnson County
Kaufman County
Montgomery County
Parker County
Rockwall County
Tarrant County
Travis County
Williamson County (Because, of course...)

Submitted my registration [renewal] a few days ago to Wichita County taxing authority. Proof of insurance, no inspection report, to receive sticker within 15 days. Effective date of process was 1/1/25

No emissions check where I reside

It can't totally in the five-parish Baton Rouge area. EPA mandates emission control checks/compliance.

EPA or local ordinances?

To answer original poster:

Yes you will still have the registration sticker annually.

Montgomery County still requires the sniff test, was excited first when I heard the news but then saw the blurb about Montgomery County.

That was my main question. I know XYZ counties will always require emissions tests but was curious on the actual sticker. Apparently that’s a registration sticker.

In Louisiana it’s just a state inspection sticker and has nothing to do with registration. My question regarding Louisiana was “would the state ever do away with the safety inspection” nothing to do with emissions testing.

How could something be in effect, but not in effect?

Yes, I got the new emissions inspection in Montgomery County on Jan. 2nd & the registration sticker on the windshield is the same as prior years.

Even the counties that don't require the inspection now will still have to pay for annual registration & receive a new sticker each year.

My 2024 Story - son's inspection sticker was due Oct 24'.

1st place - I'm getting the oil changed and asked them to go ahead and do the inspection.

20 something yr old female - "It's going to fail because the Low Frequency Horn isn't working". WTF is That ? I do my research and find out she's full of shite.

2nd Place - Einstein inspection boy (no mention of the horn) "It's going to fail because the tint is too low on the front windshield". I call the tint place that did the job and they say bullshite. They email me what they put on and the state laws.

3rd place - Greasy haired dumbass - "it's going to fail because the codes show the battery was disconnected within the past month " No mention of the HORN or the TINT. Says go drive it 100 miles and come back

4th ATTEMPT - we got the MF'ing STICKER

frick these idiots, all of them . I was spitting freaking nails by the time it was over

don't know what kind of vehicle you have, but some do have 2 horns.
1 higher pitched than the other.

but it will sound funny as hell if one of the two goes out.

Not every city demands emissions tests, Houston does I know. But not sure the status of what that wacko town will do.

It's a sham. My county you still pay an emissions test, plus there is now an "inspection fee" added into your vehicle registration. So it's just basically a money grab.

It's my kid's car Hyundai Elantra.

Well if it was so freaking important why didn't the other two "inspection experts" mention it ?

I you tubed and googled this to death, his car model has one horn, one horn relay and one horn fuse.
