The old Belle of Baton Rouge Casino pre-2000 - the greatest of all BR casinos

That was a great place to go. I’m talking after they were there for a couple years, and they stopped cruising the river every three hours.
It just had a fun atmosphere. They invested money in the landing, with the bar overlooking the river (Louie’s on the Levee, I think), great food at the food counter on the boat (great place to eat at 2am, after the bars closed), very clean, and great employees.
I’ve yet to experience the same feeling at any of the casinos in BR or even New Orleans.
I’m not a big gambler, so not like I was there every day. I probably visited it maybe once a month, mostly post 2am time, to eat and gamble $25 or so.
I believe the downfall was when it changed names (and owners) to The Argosy, plus the other casino was taking a lot of their customers with a bigger boat.
Louie’s on the Levee was a happening place. Spent many nights there. My fondest memory of it was in 1997. We went tailgating for the LSU/FLA game. We couldn’t find tickets (under $300 each), so we left and watched it at Louie’s. The place was crazy that day.
I started this topic because I think they are about to invest money back into it again, maybe making a land based casino in Catfishtown.

Belle was better than argosy for sure.
In terms of cretin to human ratio.

No pictures, but to show how much greater it was than now, my friend was a drink waitress during this time. She would bring home $300-$500 in tips on a good night.
A lot of GOOD tippers were there back then.

That boat was always a dump and the worst performer of all 15 riverboats.

Casino Rouge was the new kid on the block back in the day. Bartended there for a bit.

Thank god L’Auberge delivered on their promise to become a world class resort with a golf course and all.

I dropped by about six seven months ago and they were renovating. The hotel was still closed. They should be done with something by now.
Bring back catfish town. Little shops and food and music

Not back in the mid-90’s. It was better than The Hollywood (or whatever it was called).
I will admit, it has been a shite hole the last 25 years.

You most likely saw me if you worked on that boat in the mid-90’s.
