Yeah. Because it's God from the Sistine Chapel. Holy shite, this guy is a hack.

I found an old lootie thread from 2009. It had links to the old lootie websites, but none are still active.

Found this though

Old thread

quote:

I've actually met Slim aka "Looter Guy". He's a street musician in the Quarter. After Katrina, he had no clue that he was world-famous.

Straight up. Bought him a beer at The Alibi the November after Katrina. He had his guitar w/ him and we sang a couple of songs together. Later that week, I brought some farked pics of Slim to the bartender (a friend of mine who had evac'd and didn't know about "Lootie", either) and she nearly died laughing.

Once again a positive Black male is associated with a man you think is worthless. I think Kanye West would really like to hang out with you guys. Again, wouldn’t it have made sense to choose a musical star with an addiction problem. You mentioned Dave Chappell, wouldn’t it have been “funnier” if it were the body of Rick James?
Or maybe Hootie was chosen because Hootie rhymes with Lootie? Talk about overthinking it.

The funny part about that. I was driving down a street in NOLA after Katrina in a public vehicle. There was a group of people sitting on a porch smoking and drinking, I rolled down my window and said "y'all doing ok?" They said "we could use some water."

I said there was a big pallet of water bottles at the end of the block and they said (I will never forget this):

"Go get some for us."

I rolled up the window and drove away. I will let you fill in the rest of the picture.

Solid bump on this thread. Wish the article was still up or did she hang her head in shame?

On balance I don't agree with the article, but it does get into some issues where I have strong, contrarian opinions.

The focus on "looting" after the storm (to the extent that Burl Cain and the OPSO had built a full-fledged prison in the bus station 2 days after landfall) was totally wrong. Beyond the authorities, the way people who fled without so much as cleaning their yards or refrigerators (and then collected $3,000 from the Red Cross for your "trouble") fixated on "muh looting" was disgusting.

Laugh at Lootie all you want, but your expectation of enforcing private property rights from a cowardly distance while people were drowning, starving, and being euthanized is difficult to forgive.

I also noticed that everyone here assumes that the man picture was a looter. No chance that was his stash of beer? Maybe the man didn't want to leave his beer, maybe that's all he had left
