This just in... U-Haul is a-hole

Rented a U-Haul truck to move a few things on Saturday. Figured since it was a local move, U-Haul wouldn't cause too many problems, right?
I reserved truck to pick up in Tucker, GA. The automated text service directed me to the Brookhaven, GA facility. I wait 20 minutes for the employee to stop texting and help me at the desk, only for him to determine the order isn't in the system. Spend another 30 minutes on the phone with customer service trying to get the order changed. Finally get the keys and on the road after an hour's delay.
The gentleman tells me to return by midnight to avoid a second day's charge. I return the truck at 10:30pm. The next day, my credit card statement shows $191 when the initial estimate was $72. Turns out that not only was I double-charged for mileage and daily rate, but also nicked with a $25 cleaning fee - the truck was spotless when I returned it.
I've called customer service twice and gotten nowhere. Is it worth it dealing with these idiots? Or should just I go through my bank and dispute the entire amount?
TLDR: U-Haul sucks arse and should be avoided.

Go through your bank.

GA has had its problems trying to count and figure out things since the election.

I've never had any problems with U-Haul. Sounds like you are not very tech savvy and that lead to your issues

Sounds like a U-Problem.

You were fortunate that they actually had a truck for you to use.
They are famous for "A reservation does not guarantee availability".
Pay the money and move on.

This seems like a good stock to buy. Lemme check the short status.

Look into Enterprise commercial services. They have all sizes of trucks and I've never had a problem with them. We rented HD pickups to tow a large trailer down to Florida a few times. They're one of the only rental companies I've seen that allow towing. We went to Forrest Park to get ours but I'm sure they have one up North.
I remember going and looking at a U-Haul once and I got sticker shock. WAY more than I thought it should cost. Same could be said about PODS moving storage system.

Next time use Penske and get a special on AAA membership beforehand for discount ... much cheaper. I’ve moved cross country several times using Penske.... only problem I’ve had is leaking roofs, no major damage but hey have me good discount back

they suck - and will frick you over any way they can.
funny thing - the insurance you can buy through them doesn't cover the entire truck - it covers up to around the door - any damage to the canopy of the truck is not covered - it is buried in the fine print.

Was it one of those mom and pop Uhaul franchises? Go back to where you rented it and tell them your story

I peeled the top off one of their trucks like a can opener back in college. Thankfully my buddy was a MacGyver type and we somehow made it look passable for inspection. Turned it in, got the deposit back next day.

I hear about lots of people getting fricked by U-Haul, which surprises me because though the service blows and their fleet is trash, I’ve never been fricked with for over charges, etc.

The cleaning fee is bullshite because that's a "your word against theirs".
Go to their website and send a message to corporate. Tell them what happened and express even more your disappointment about the $25 charge and how you simply can't do business with a company that is able to get away with it.
You never know.. Corporate might be pissed that their customers are unable to trust certain locations and try to correct the problem.

I need to rent an enclosed trailer, in the past they would quote monthly rental prices. Now they want the daily rate, paid up front for 6 weeks. That would put me 1/2 way to just buying a 6X12 trailer...

Bawcomville U-Haul was a premier experience from a premier company.

If you ever rent a car/truck, take pictures when you get it and right when you drop it off. I also make damn sure there is a time on the receiving form, and that my GPS is on so the pictures locations are recorded.
A car rental place tried to screw me once, on a business drive no less, and you're damn right I had a shite eating grin on my face when I brought my fully loaded tablet to ask them about damage that obviously didn't exist.
