On July 20, 2012, a mass shooting occurred inside a Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, during a midnight screening of the film The Dark Knight Rises. Dressed in tactical clothing, James Eagan Holmes set off tear gas grenades and shot into the audience with multiple firearms. Twelve people were killed and seventy others were injured, 58 of them from gunfire.

It was the deadliest shooting in Colorado since the Columbine High School massacre in 1999, and at the time had the largest number of casualties (82) in one shooting in modern U.S. history

One of the craziest parts of that whole thing was how he went unnoticed by police for several minutes in the crowd due to being dressed in tactical gear, then just peacefully gave up

quote:

Aurora police officer Jason Oviatt arrested Holmes a few minutes later, after finding him outside, standing with his hands on top of his car. Oviatt said Holmes was "completely compliant" when told to surrender. Oviatt, though, said that when he first spotted Holmes, he thought he was a fellow officer because he was dressed in full body armor and wore a gas mask and helmet.

"He was just standing there not doing anything, not urgent about anything," Oviatt testified. Police seized a semiautomatic handgun with a laser sight, a semiautomatic shotgun and an AR-15 military assault rifle equipped with a 100-round magazine drum from the scene.

It's great that our tax dollars are paying for his food and medical care to this day.

I was actually at a theatre about 20 miles south from there and remember as we were walking out there were a shite ton of cops and swat. We didn’t find out about the shooting until we got home. I’m pissed they didn’t execute that son of a bitch.

Wow, I didn't realize that. I assumed he was put in the dirt by the end of the year.

We have the best country on earth but in these particular instances, he should only be alive for a few seconds after the judge stops talking.

wonder if the Tea Party guy that got all that harassment ever got paid?

I think it was that Brian Ross son of a bitch who made it up. He got fired later for something else.

What's even the point of not having cap punishment? Is it just a money thing?

True story. In 2016 I was working at a hospital in Aurora as a travel nurse. I went to the movies one afternoon and was the only person in that particular screening room. Felt a little weird but no big deal. Mentioned it a few days later at work. Found out I was in the theatre in the room where the shooting took place. Gave me the willies for a few days. Went back a few weeks later but was in a different screening room.
