I dont golf what so ever, but bringing father in law to Top Golf for his birthday, tonight. I know they have clubs there, but he will want his own, so we were going to sneak a few clubs out of his bag.
What clubs do you recommend?

I've been to TG and love it.
I wouldn't really think of bringing my own, doesn't really seem worth it, just IMO. They have full sets there and while they're obviously not top of the line clubs, it's not like some 30 year old piece of junk they picked up at a yard sale.
Also, even though technically it is a driving range, it's more about a social/fun/relaxing time. I don't think anyone goes to TG to really hone their game.

For me:
Lob wedge, gap wedge, 9 iron, 7 iron, 5 iron, 3. iron, 5 wood, driver.
Thats what I go through on the range. If I had to limit it to less, it'd be lob wedge, gap wedge, 7 iron, 3 iron, driver.

I understand, but he was a collegiate golfer and semi pro, so pretty competitive and guessing he is going to really want his personal clubs .

I would absolutely want my own clubs at Top Golf or any other golf outing. Always love to get some practice in with my own sticks, regardless of environment.

I would rather just show up and eat, drink and play. I never lug my clubs although quite a few folks do.

gotcha.
bring a driver, a lob wedge, and 7 and 8 irons. that should be good for just about every game they have there
their clubs aren't bad, but I prefer my own

The only Top Golf I've been to was in Austin and the furthest target was 215, so driver is definitely not needed.
I was able to score pretty high just by hitting an easy 9 iron to the 150 target and 7 iron to the 185 target, but yardages vary for everybody. I brought my full bag, but only used the my 4, 7, 9, and SW for some chip shot stuff.

Never been but since this is the OT, I guess I just need a wedge and a 9I. :)

Bring his whole bag, the ones you can rent there are shite clubs but work fine for the various games, it's more about drinking and having fun than being so serious.
That being said we always bring in our own bags

I bring my whole bag. What else would you carry them in, even if you only use 4-5. It's allowed and common.
Didn't see your follow up post.
It depends on how far you hit. I think I used mostly my 4, 7, 9 and SW. I used the driver just to see if I could hit it over the net in the back, but you don't need it.

Maybe I'm just a weirdo in the minority, but I would probably laugh at someone bringing in their full bag.
As mentioned the "range" doesn't really go very far out. Most of what you're doing golf wise is just playing games shooting at various targets. Idk..I just think that unless you're a scratch golfer there's really no point to bring your own. It's more about having fun and drinking and socializing anyway. I would think if someone wanted to get real serious about working on game they'd go to an actual driving range.

I knew it was an honest mistake, you aren't an idiot like some people on here.
