V6 turbo in a truck is wild to me

GM puts a four banger turbo in Silverados. It's pretty much the standard engine in < 55k models

My 08 is still getting it. I think she's getting ready to hit 250k this summer.

That’s even more wild. Kind of shows a lot of people are buying trucks who may not actually need a “truck”, IMO.

Ford has done it for years. Their ecoboost didnt have issues like this

The early models had the timing chain issues, but I don't think that's been much of a problem in the 2015+ trucks.

I thought the entire thing was a government mandate? I got 20 sr5 4wd v8. Love it.

Also, GM wouldn’t recall but would deny there are problems.

Change transmission fluid 3 times to get them thru warranty

Turbos are inherently less reliable over time and run hotter than a V8, not really great attributes for something that needs to tow.

And your fuel mileage goes back to suck.

They work fine in semi tractors.
In a couple million miles of driving them, never had a turbo problem.

Correct. The Ecoboost V6 motors have turned out to be pretty reliable.

The Chevy/GMC 2.7L TurboMax engine has also been remarkably reliable as well.

It’s pretty common knowledge that Toyota screwed up the 3.4L Twin Turbo V6. It’s not a reliable package, and it goes beyond the Tundra. The Sequioa and Lexus LX are having issues too.

It’s been a shockingly reliable motor too. Just don’t expect a big fuel economy advantage over a V6 or V8.

The cab has to come off? Completely asinine. It’ll rattle and squeak after it’s put back together, haphazardly.

A Toyota fanboi chided me for having a preventative head gasket rebuild on an 08 Forester that came with preventive serpentine belt, water pump and something else preventative maintenance package for $1,800 w tax. Nothing was wrong with it but that year still had issues so knocked it out. Still driving it trouble free. I think I’ve put maybe $3000 into that car since I bought it in over 16 years ago and that includes tires, brake job and oil changes.

This switchover to the turbo v6 is turning even more into the disaster a lot of people predicted.. they’ll get it figured out if there track record is any indication but turning into the classic.. wait a few years till they get the kinks worked out….

This is why I'm hesitant on the new tacomas and 4runners with that new engine

Yeah. I like them, but they aren’t making a good case to trade in an older Toyota for a new one.

A friend of mine has a 2023 Tundra and it’s been a complete piece of shite for him. But his engine hasn’t completely failed though. A lot of issues with electronics and bodywork.

I wouldn't buy one. I've seen a few YouTube videos about terrible build quality on the new Tacoma. I'm sure Toyota will figure it out in a few years though
