It’s interesting to me how things like dress hats and men’s jewelry have fallen out of fashion and are now deemed too flashy.

On men over 50 I’m fine with it. If it’s something sentimental or significant in some way and not displayed for the public to really see.

Dress hats only worked when men wore suits. I would wear a gold chain with a cross but it’s not something I like enough to buy. I only wear my wedding ring and a watch.

Reminds me of something my Italian roommate asked me.
"Why do Italians wear gold chains?"
"I dunno"
"So they know where to stop shaving."

One of my most treasured things I own, is a gold chain that my grandfather wore with a small gold dog tag with his initials on it. He was in the Air Force, and he wore it all the time. When he died, I was given the chain, that was in '95. Since then it was in storage and some of the small diamonds he had in the initials fell out. My wife had it re-done for me a few years ago, and I wear it every day, so color me trashy as frick.

It is. I’ve personally tried to work in dress hats on a few occasions but it just doesn’t work. Maybe on older (senior) men I think. Or maybe I’m just thinking about my grandpa

But we got beards back somehow. Was that a post-war thing? Or what?

It was more way more common and accepted in the 70s-80s, then tats became more of a thing.

One of my grandmothers bought me a silver chain/necklace for my 7th birthday, and even 25 years later, I still wear it every moment of every single day, unless I'm showering. It's honestly one of the best gifts I've ever gotten. Might be because I always admired the way it looked and it makes me think of my grandma who I still miss dearly.
If that makes me trashy, then so be it. I'm trashy.

Brah, when I was at LSU I wore a gold chain even when I ran to the river and back bare-chested. Women dug it (or at least stared a little.) Don't knock it.
I haven't worn one in years; thanks for the idea.

The fact that this went right over the head of so many makes me feel old. Very underrated comment.

Are we talking Mr.T style or something simple? You gotta be more specific here.
