I mean, they are chopping your balls off today, so as far as bad decisions go I feel like the beers are the least of your concern
A 4th kid is much more concerning. Procedure isn't until 3 this afternoon, I'm not full on morning drinking

My doc doesn't do valium, just local and loratab after.

no beers....hopefully you were joking
they will give you drugs.
take it easy physically for a few days and everything will be back to normal..
i never took any after operation drugs....and do not remember it being any big deal...

Nothing will kill the pain of voluntarily losing your manhood.

Well, there's your problem. You need to find a doc that does valium. He'll be much more relaxed during your surgery.

Drinking a beer beforehand a bad idea? Those that have had it done, how bad was the recovery?
Not really on the beer since they only give you a couple shots in the old ball sack to deaden the area.
I had mine done over 20 years ago right in the urologists office and it took just a matter of minutes once the shot deadened the area.
I watched him do the entire thing. The recovery for me was very easy with just a bit of discomfort for a couple days, but not enough to really hurt. The incisions to get things snipped was very small and healed up quickly.

It is not bad. I wouldn't take anything. Just do what the doc says post op.

Me either. They weren’t even offered. Just some ice and taking it easy for a few days. Was way easier than inguinal hernia surgery.

I took a Valium and washed it down with 4-5 shots of whiskey while I was soaking in the bath then shaving before heading to the appointment.

My advice:
Don’t drive 16 hours 2 days after surgery. You’ll thank me for that one.

My Dr told me to take a Valium before I left the house and one in the waiting room. walked in relaxed. numbed the area and was done before I knew it. Sent the kids to the grands and drank beer and watched golf/movies all weekend. wasnt bad at all.

This is what OP feels tomorrow

Little over a month ago for me. Worst part was the worrying about it. Actual procedure is nothing outside of about 45 seconds of feeling like you took a nutshot.

It's a breeze of you ain't a pussy. I had no drugs. Not even Tylenol. It's over in 15 minutes. The nurses wiping down the balls is a bit tickly but soon you won't be concerned with that.
Just find a recliner and ice those nuts down good for first day. Then take it very easy for first week. I recommend milking it for the entire weekend even tho you will be fine 24 hrs later. You should have timed it over masters weekend.

Yeah I thought the valium was standard operating procedure for stuff like this.
I wouldn't do the beer. I may decide to hammer a few this evening after the surgery. Also, you should already have a way to get your wife's attention without having to open your mouth. You're gonna be slow the next few days and she will need to wait on you hand and foot. And follow the rules. No heavy lifting. It can haunt you.

Surgeon I went to orders a 10mg Valium and used local anesthetic for every vasectomy... it’s his protocol. Wants patients chilled and just laying there. Assumed it was something similar most places.
Same with mine.

I went in for vasectomy in January and they ended up removing a testicle and I had to get chemo. Good luck!

After reading this thread I think I'd rather just put a condom on everyday after I get out of the shower

mine was easy. 10 minutes done. no paid at all during or after. Had it done friday morning and was at a crawfish boil the next afternoon. just dont overdo it after, follow doctors orders and youll be fine

Most uncomfortable part for me was trying not to pop a chub when the hot nurse was prepping my junk.
Honestly, this. The freezing cold antibacterial stuff she used to prep the area evened it out.
I had mine 6 weeks ago and my urologist does all of his in a surgery center. Local anesthetic only, no valium and I was perfectly fine the whole time.
The shot is basically a pinch on your ball sack and the only pain I had during the actual procedure was when he was moving stuff around to get to the left vas, it felt like he was squeezing my ball a little but it was temporary.
Recovery was an absolute breeze for me, I had a little sensitivity, zero pain, and minimal swelling and bruising. Stay on the couch for at least 48 hours after the procedure, wear compression shorts, wear a jock strap OUTSIDE of the compression shorts and put your frozen peas in between the jock strap and compression shorts. Then wear the compression short/jock strap combo for a week.
