What am I not getting?

Is this a good innovation?

I thought the same thing. Unless they can parallel park, they're pointless.

The innovation is that the rear wheels can turn. Turning the front and rear in opposite directions will reduce the turning radius allowing for sharper turns.

Turning the wheels in the same direction enables crab walk. Crab walk is a "look what I can do" feature that will probably never get used, but since it is available, why not enable it.

I don’t understand why so many people have such trouble parallel parking. I had to know how to do it to get a driver’s license back in the 80s

More useless shite to run vehicle prices up, huh?

Saw a review where the electric Hummer had like a 6” tighter turning radius than a Suburban.

ETA: my apologies it was a Cybertruck. Rich Rebuids reviews Cybertruck and the turning radius worse. 10:30 point in video.

The hummer with 4 wheel steering has a better turning radius than a tesla model 3 as well as most GM vehicles.

Hell, I can parallel park, without the need for my rear axle to articulate…

It's been around for at least 25 years or maybe longer, just not on many cars. Any car that has 4 wheel steering did that. It does reduce tire scrub, particularly when changing lanes, and allows for tighter cornering.

It's dumb. Features you don't need that create repair bills you don't want in a few years.

They had it in the 1990's on a Denali, also I think the top spec 300zx and 3000gt both had it. My dad had a car with it and it was supposed to make handling so much better. Maybe it did, maybe it didn't, I never drove that car. But you could put it up against a Vette or Supra that could hang without the idiotic steering gimmick.

My dad's Honda Prelude had four wheel steering too. In the 80s.

Features that make the vehicle cost more which drives up margins and revenue and craps out so you want to buy a new one in a few years.

You think people who spend $100k on a vehicle care how much repair bills go for?

I know LA roads get a bad rep, but roads in Oklahoma are terrible.
