Vintage New Orleans restaurant menus

Gifted from a Louisiana relative to me.
Circa early 1960's.
The New Hotel Monteleone: Mardi Gras in New Orleans 1961. Anyone up for full Filet Mignon dinner for $5.10??
The Blue Room at The Roosevelt: Pride of the South.
I could suck down a few dozen oysters at $1.55/dozen plus a few Old Fashioned's at $0.95/each.
Brennan's at 417 Royal Street: That $0.60 turtle soup then will cost you $13.00 now.
Arnaud's: Dans el coeur du Vieux Carre de la Nouvelle Orleans.
"A dinner chosen according to one's needs, tastes and moods, well prepared and well served, is a joy to all senses and an impelling incentive to sound sleep, good health and long life. Therefore, at least once a day, preferably in the cool and quiet of the evening, one should throw all care to the winds, relax completely and dine leisurely and well."-----Arnaud Cazenave-The Philosophy of Dining.

Friend,
Thank you for sharing! Tulane also has an extensive online restaurant menu archive that is always worth a read. Do hold on to those old menus.

1960s were a little before my time, but are there any oldheads like me who remember a French Quarter restaurant in the early 1980s called Anything Goes ? It was cool, you would have dinner in a huge beer can, or in a 1950s Studebaker booth.. and you’d be waited on by the likes of Marilyn Monroe, or Zorro .. sort of like Jack Rabbit Slim’s in Pulp Fiction, but way before Pulp Fiction was conceived of… I was a little kid then, but the consensus amongst all the adults was that the food was terrible .. there are menus online if anyone cares

Can you imagine the overhead now, required to carry that full Arnaud’s menu? Unreal.

That's really cool stuff. Prices are up a little bit.

Seems cheap now but my grandfather made $0.50 an hour working the tool room of a shipyard in 1961 so a $5 entre was not cheap then.

Brennan’s Cotton Pickin’ dessert sounds interesting. Any idea what it was?

I have two Brennan menus from the mid-50’s, same day, one lunch, one dinner.
I like finding old paper items from New Orleans. One of my Holy Grails is finding an old New Orleans blue book.

1.25 in 1965 is about 12 dollars today.
So yea oysters are way over the normal inflation rate
