Watson Brake is an archaeological site in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana from the Archaic period. Dated to about 5400 years ago (approx. 3500 BCE), Watson Brake is considered the earliest mound complex in North America. It is the earliest dated, complex construction in the Americas.

Was headed for Poverty Point this morning... got to Natchez and got tired of driving... so went to the Emerald Mound site near Natchez. Maggie loved running around on the top of that thing.

Damn that's like 1 generation removed from Adam and the beginning of Earth.
And I used to laugh at people who thought the French Quarter was cool because it was "old". Maybe La's alright after all!
ETA: and why weren't you at work today Rex?

You let your dog boo boo on top of a historical site?

The Garden of Eden was in Missouri.... LINK
so I'm not particularly surprised that Adam's grandchildren settled in Ouachita Parish. Not as cold.

Classic Louisiana trash... "Awesome, 5000 year old archaeological relic. Gonna let my dog piss on it."

In before Rex's dog buried its bone in an old Indian's mound.

Joseph Smith, however, claimed by revelation that the Garden of Eden was in western Missouri.

LSU's Indian mounds are almost as old. The three oldest man-made structures in the Americas (well, depending upon how you define "structures")--are/were all located in Louisiana. LSU's mounds are 5,000-6,000 years old, and Watson Brake's mounds are 5,400 years old. The old Monte Sano mounds in Baton Rouge were 7,000 years old before Formosa Plastics took the site.

What did Formosa Plastics do with theirs?

Removed the mounds.

The FQ is younger than NYC, Boston, Philly, Charleston, and Santa Fe, among others. And younger than Natchitoches and Opelousas in Louisiana.
