I recognize a couple of brands such as Sealy. What are the reputable ones they sell? Caspar? Sleepscience? Novaforum?

Screw Costco. Just wait until the local no-tell motel changes out their mattresses. You can get a “bargain” with that.
Might want to get a round of antibiotics before hand.

I got a Stearns and Foster from there my wife and I really like. And it was a lot less than buying one anywhere else.

Is there such a thing as a cool foam or hybrid mattress?

I am gonna save you a lot time, frustration, and money in mattress buying. Buy a simple reputable firm mattress with no bells and whistles added on. Should be 11" or 12" tall. Then buy the gel infused memory foam topper or other toppers your prefer and put on that base firm mattress.
Lots of topper choices to mix and match to give you the same thing stores are selling for $4-5k. We first put a 2" memory foam on with a quilted mattress pad on top of it. It was good but still not perfect so we added another 2" foam topper and its perfect. About $1300 in it for a King.

We got a Novafoam, or whatever it’s called from there in August for a spare bedroom. I sleep in there sometimes, and we’ve had guests use it. It’s on a bed, platform style (no box springs). The box springs made it too high… required a running jump, and not good for… well you know.
Everyone thinks it’s really comfy. We will see how it lasts, but so cheap it is worth the risk.

I owned a mattress store for about 15 years before I sold it. Most mattresses come from the same manufacturer with different marketing techniques. They are all marked up exponentially, find one “on sale” and that’s the most comfortable to you is the best advice.
