What do Louisiana baws think about Justin Wilson?

Last night I ran across a 24/7 livestream of Justin Wilson's cooking show. It just shows episode after episode all day every day.
I watched a few, and it got me wondering how the people of LA feel about Justin. I know the show was originally produced for Mississippi, but I remember watching him on PBS in Alabama as I was growing up. Do you folks look at him as a real Cajun, or is he too gimmicky?
Here's the link to the YouTube channel:

**Fixed the link. For some reason the original stream stopped working right after I posted it. A new 24/7 stream is up now.**

He wasn't a Cajun. He even admitted it. He was a cook with bad acting skills, but some simple minds found him humorous.

He's one of many reason why Louisiana will never be mistaken for Massachusetts.

He wasn't a Cajun at all? I just figured he played up the Cajun part he did have.

Cultural appropriator in chief.

When we moved back to Tennessee, we bought a place out in the boondocks.
Our next door neighbor's wife loved to cook and she had watched Justin Wilson a lot and she talked about how much she liked him and people from his part of the world. She'd never been to Louisiana, but she had a good feeling from watching him.
That made our moving here a lot easier. (Only later did we emphasize that my husband's people were from the next county to the north.)

Not a Cajun. Not a chef.
That wasn't the point.
He was parrain to my step father's sister. Was a likeable enough guy.

Entertaining and from Louisiana, but the accent and schtick were all an act.

Not according to my grandparents. He was a popular entertainer but the old folks didn't accept him as a true Cajun.

I met some of John Folse's close close family and not a single one of them had his accent either.

IIRC, his mother was French, but not Cajun French.

Nothing fake about that accent. He's got that strong West Ascension / Assumption Parish accent. Funny thing though is that I know people from Fordoche in Pointe Coupee that sound JUST like him.

It seems like I heard something about it years ago. I have always thought he was a little too gimmicky with it, but just figured he was laying it on thick for the audience.
Was he even from Louisiana? If so, what part?

I met his brother. No accent. Maybe they do have an accent but John Folse is definitely milking it.

He was alright to watch with MawMaw and PawPaw back when there were only 3 channels and PBS.

I'd be willing to bet that he did early on in his career so much so that it became second nature to him.
