With all the surveillance and AI that can be used to monitor and go after mobsters, where do you think the mafia sees its most lucrative activity these days? Gone are the good old wise guy days, but id have to think the feds are mostly focused on catching white supremacists now.

The first rule of describing the Mafia is to not describe the Mafia.

ETA: I’ve been flying a bunch today

I MAY have been overserved a time or two….

A shell of its former self. I'm big into mob history and it's cool to see all these mob guys all over YouTube talking about their life. There is only 1 podcast I know that tries to keep up with the current news, but there really isn't a whole lot. This past week there was a big Lucchese bust involving gambling. Violence is way down, due to surveillance and technology now. Mostly only white-collar crimes now and petty stuff.

I read something recently that mentioned it's still alive and thriving in several cities north of the border. Toronto was specifically noted for having a very active mob presence with the Ndrangheta. If I'm not mistaken, they're the most powerful orginization back in Italy. It's not my area of expertise though so I have no idea how valid it is, but thought it was interesting while reading about it

I got into that pretty heavy for a while. But it's like watching Real Housewives. A bunch of drama, name calling, and lies. All to get attention.

Mobsters are scum. Little Sammy the Rat can rot in hell.

That sounds right - Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver were explicitly mentioned multiple times. I updated the post you quoted and added some info about the Ndrangheta. They seemed to be the primary focus of whatever article it was that found its way to me

Only time I've been to NYC I was walking through the "Italian" section. I came to an intersection and two guys in long coats with a very large man walking behind them walked by. The had hats on and looked just like old time mafia guys.

One of the two guys in front, said, "We're gonna have to do something about that guy."

They weren't looking at me and I knew they weren't talking about me. I stopped and looked around, thinking that I had accidentally walked into some tv show or movie set. As far as I know, i hadn't, but it was a funny and surreal moment.

He seems to know a lot about the families of today. It's either him talking out of his arse, or he knows people.
