To you there’s not. I got dragged there a couple of times and it felt very cultish to me.
I kinda feel that way about mist churches/religion though.

Why is it called Church of the Highlands? What does Highlands have to do with anything biblical?

To answer the OP, It’s a new age non-denominational church. That said, it’s in Alabama and after attending 2 services there I picked up a heavy Baptist/United Methodist vibe in the 2 sermons. Maybe I just perceived that because those are the two predominant religions here.
They have one main campus where the main pastor does the service. Then they have several satellite campuses around the state, mostly in Birmingham. Those campuses have their own leadership teams that do their own service, but they pipe in the readings/sermon from the main campus.
Several of our friends go there. When I tell them I’ve been and it wasn’t for me, they all say you have to do small groups to really get the full experience. I’ve never asked what small groups are and how often they meet. That sounds like more commitment than I’m willing to give.

It’s one of those big mega churches where people go to feel “renewed” and “revitalized”. Basically a lot of the mindless praise worship bands and some feel good fluffy sermon from a guy wearing jeans and a t-shirt. All they preach about is how much God loves you and wants the best for you and accepts you for who you are, and all that stuff. None of the tougher topics are ever addressed because that would be uncomfortable and wouldn’t make people feel good.
You’ll never hear them talk about wives submitting to husbands, or why God commanded the Israelites to slay their enemies wives and children, or the fact that divorce is a direct violation of God’s covenant, or even just the basics of scriptural doctrine. It’s all just a shallow emotional therapy session.

That explains why it’s so popular with white suburbanites.

I try to go there once and a while for the quickening.

The high places were places of idol worship. The thought was, the higher the place, the stronger the god behind the idol. Reference the complete story of Balaam in Numbers for an idea of this in play.

It’s a cult money making scheme for the pastor, so pretty much just like any mega church

It’s incredibly cult-like. I’d type up all the reasons but you wouldn’t listen.

Perfect description.

This is a big complaint of mine as well.
Factor in the “college of the highlands” where it cost 6k a term out of pocket just for tuition for the chance to earn a “certificate” and the pastor is the chancellor, you have to be pretty brainwashed to seriously defend this place.

Joel Olsteen's church out of Houston is #1. Andy Stanley's North Point Ministries in Atlanta is also in the top 5.
The real question is which preacher has the biggest house. That's how you know who's winning.

Dino Rizzo escaped to Birmingham to hide at the church of the highlands when he got caught in an affair at healing place in Baton Rouge.

Hide? They made him youth pastor. Lol.
Chris Hodges was mentored by Ted Haggard at Bethany.

I looked at the college of the highlands recently because I was highly skeptical of the sincerity of the church leadership.
You pay tuition for bible study and the privilege of “serving”. That’s it. If you want to pay extra and actually get an accredited diploma, you pay more and take online classes through some affiliate in Florida. You can get the highly sought after “associates in Christian ministries” or something.
But if you pursue the certificate option, you take a “math” course (literally titled “math”), sociology, and a bunch of bible study courses. The rest of your time is spent being labor for their mega churches. You aren’t even allowed to have a job your first year because you’re too busy working for the church. Enforcing that for any undergrad is ludicrous, let alone some bible study certificate program.
And you get to pay to do all this. It’s a pretty great scheme honestly, I wish I thought of it. You have a perpetual pipeline of gullible teenagers with duped parents sending their kids to this “college”. They constantly advertise for it at services and take donations from the congregation for it.

Wow, that doesn’t sound like a cult at all. *sarcasm*

Because that would be one sided as husbands are supposed to also submit to their wives.

All sin is a violation of God's covenant. Divorce isn't special.

Husbands are supposed to love their wives like Christ loves the church and are head of the household like Christ is head of the church.

You have clearly never been because everything you said is inaccurate. It sounds like you are repeating the gossip spread by Baptist churches who are scared and threatened by their impact.
I belong to a different Baptist church, but I’ve been to Highlands many times because my kids like it. I hate the music, but the pastor is good and preaches from the Bible.
