You're getting downvotes, but you're 100% correct. The lack of any real organization and one or two dominant gangs keeping the drug trade more or less regulated in the city is a huge contributing factor in New Orleans' high homicide rate. It's just small groups of morons who kill each other over stupid things and lack any "business" sense.
That's also a major reason for Chicago's high murder rate. The killings skyrocketed after a few major gang leaders were arrested and convicted, which left low-level gang members to do their own thing without direction.
Yup. Our local gangs are just a bunch of low level dealing thugs. There are so many of them, they are all small, and they each individually control so little territory, that there is a constant power struggle and desire to expand. No one has enough to keep satisfied, and expansion = violence.
Definetly a power vaccum right now, which is not good.

Warriors and Newsies are the biggest ones.

Simon City Royals are in Chalmette and Arabi.

Haven’t read the thread replies, but I imagine some of the locals have posted in this thread in an oddly proud tone about how Nola gangs are too hardcore for these national gangs to get a foothold and the hood gangs in Nola ran them all off. The same posters will mention 7-10x on this board before years end how they’ve never felt endangered in New Orleans and it’s a great city with rich history and culture
Well, you imagined wrong then

All this talk of gangs and retaliation got me wondering. Are there crypts and bloods and shite?
There are "bloods and crips" spread out throughout the country (there might be less today), but they are not affiliated with the original bloods and crips that were established in L.A.
I am not sure if there are any gangs in NO who consider themselves to be bloods or crips.. there use to be the D Block Boys, The Melph Mafia, etc, etc..
Is crack still sold? I know it's out there, but there isn't nearly the demand for it as there was 20+ years ago. I assume most gangs are making money from heroin and pills today.

Houston received alot of the gang members after Katrina. I worked with some Little Rock PD detectives back in 2008 and they said the NO gangs went to Houston and took over alot of the local turf. It forced some of the gangs in Houston to get out of town. Many of them went to Little Rock. Little Rock PD hated NO because of it.

Yeah they do. There's also groups that call themselves "Souljas" and they can be in varying parts of the city, like the "7th Ward Souljas" and so forth.
But to me, they are all dumb bastards too stupid to try to earn an honest living and all they do is prey on the weak---in gangs because they aren't man enough to go one on one.

I was reading an article a few weeks ago on Carlos Marcello and the author mentioned that when the serious Mafia presence moved out, New Orleans became more violent. The author went on to point out that the Mafia did not put up with any non-professional BS because they did not want any attention.
I lived there doing those years and that statement is absolutely true.

Cripts and Bloods? Seriously? This is not 1988, man.
Pena and Metz are the Uptown gangs.
Young Melph, Gotti Boyz and Bird are the 3rd Ward gangs.
Downey’s and 39ers (9th Ward and Uptown) primarily moved away after Katrina, but still have a presence.
Cut Throat City in the 9th Ward.
Whitney Boys in Algiers.
Harvey Hustlers on the West Bank.
Only real Crips I know are the Sonia Quarter Crips and they do not have a genuine affiliation with the original L.A. Crips.
As for Latin gangs, MS 13 and Suenos are increasing their presence in NOLA.
