What happened to Rodney Peairs (OR Bonnie Peairs)?

Shooting of Yoshiro Hattori
Not looking for gun control debate, and I feel sorry for all concerned. But I'm curious. How did Peairs end up in all of this? I read he got a large civil judgement against him. Anybody know?

Nothing on the criminal side, but got hit for $1 million on the civil side, homeowners maxed at $100k and he is on the hook for the other 900k, I have heard he has lost everything and possibly divorced, basically his life is in shambles
ETA: after reading the above link, it looks like the civil judgement was 650K

Dude shouldn't have gotten off criminally. I'm all for protecting your private property, especially your house. But what he did is inexcusable imo.

Is that the guy who shot the moonwalking Japanese guy back in the early 90's?

I don't know how accurate that description you just gave of the incident is, but yes that's him

There was a recent case, maybe posted here, not sure, about a guy who shot someone who was turning around in his driveway. Plea bargained down to misdemeanor assault.

I can't seriously disagree but I'm a believer in the law. According to witnesses he acted in a lawful manner. HOWEVER, his actions were sickening to me. I am a gun enthusiast and believe we have a profound responsibility. There was no dispute as to his irresponsible actions.
I have to support the criminal findings. I support the civil findings as well.

You should have seen the gun he used. It was a huge pistol with a massive scope on it.
ETA: was a 44 magnum with hunting scope

I was told two years ago that as part of the civil judgment his finances are reviewed by the court every five years, any money or assets he has are given to the family of the deceased, and this will continue until the judgment is satisfied. Because of this he lives in a mobile home owned by a relative, and works mostly odd jobs where he can be paid in cash.

He has to pay annual dues to the victims family. isn't his wife to blame? She overacted...

Don't guess he could've just filed bankruptcy and been done with it, eh?

Don't feel sorry for him,

I don't think you can discharge liabilities incurred for intentional acts in bankruptcy.

It was a horrible situation.

LINK
Civil judgments resulting from a malicious injury, or death cannot usually be discharged through bankruptcy.
