I was making $5/hr as a dishwasher for a Chinese buffet. I think it was called “Chinese Chef”. I was given a choice between this and $4.75 at Taco Bell. Well, the obvious choice was the buffet and you get to bring home some Chinese food. Little did I know, the Chinese would work you to death. Whenever I had free time, it was “peel the onions”, “remove the chicken leg skin”,” clean the oil filters”. I was making around $175 every two weeks and touching that cash on pay day was glorious.

I mowed lawns mostly, anywhere from $5 - $20 a lawn. Went and spent most of it on arcades after.

$8/hr working for a local men’s clothing store.

Ended up spending more time playing gin rummy than actually working

My very first job when I was 15, paid $5/ hour cash. But it was in the CBD of NOLA and hard to get to by bus, so when a job across the street from my house became available for $4.25/ hour (plus more hours). I took that one.

During the school year I mowed yards with my old man once he got off work and I finished practice. I pushed yards while he weedwhacked, think we charged like $35-$50 a yard, so I'd get around $10 a yard. In the summer I made $7.25 during the day, and would push the yards in the afternoon.
