So I've been noticing this horrific new trend of black dress shoes with thick brown, almost tan soles and light stitching. I see it quite regularly in my office, and it was all over the place at the last shoe store I went to.

How in the hell is this a thing?!? Doesn't everyone know black and brown don't mix, and they look hideous when set right next to each other.

Is this a hipster thing?

Gray suit and oxblood shoes looks infinitely better than a gray suit with black shoes.

My girlfriend who works in the fashion industry tried to tell me the other day that black and brown/khaki or whatever does go together sometimes.

I mean I guess people can say that, but it doesn't prevent it from looking like shite.

I've always been told that if it's a lighter gray suit then you go with brown shoes. If it's darker or charcoal then black is okay, but even then I don't know anyone who wears black shoes.

Only time I'm rocking black shoes is to a carnival function or fundraiser and I'm in black tie attire

No shite. That looks like something a hipster bartender would wear.

A grey suit is the only time I'll wear black shoes. As mentioned, with a light grey the brown shoes can look fantastic. At the same time, black can really pop off them. Either works great with a good grey suit.

True, those were just the first example I saw when googled. There were plenty of dressier ones with the same brown sole and tan lacing.

It look so bad regardless of whether the shoe is casual or dressy.
