My next door neighbors have one, the new home owners painted the guy white though.

An older black guy in our neighborhood had one in his yard for years. Knowing him, it was probably a way of exerting control over how people look at things (and his sense of humor). He passed away, and his son, who now owns the house, removed it.

He evidently did not inherit his dad’s sense of humor.

It's been a while. But somebody has one of these on their lake wall near where we fish from the boat. I figure it's to try and piss off us Democrats.

I had that same one, I threw away the fishing pole and carved out a big dick for him and painted it black. A week later someone stole him off the front porch.

The ones I remember were cast iron. Larry David show they went to county outside of Atlanta and everyone had one it seemed as sign they were racist, (Larry got to be friends with a klansman last season)

I remember them more being a sign of I am a rich or kinda rich mfer more than being a sign of a klansman????

There are several of the fishermen ones on the Amite and Diversion or at least there were, I haven't really paid attention in the last few years. There was one on the upper part of the Diversion that was black for a while then white and then it disappeared.

I see a lot of them at camps. While riding the waverunners with Armymann50 I saw a half dozen of them around the Lake Maurepas area.

I also have the one of a little fellow eating watermelon.

As far as lawn jockeys they are common at a lot of racing stables.

About three years about in baker. Older black couple owned the house and had one along the driveway

Looked like this

I figured they were black because if what they were made of.

Like this isn’t racist to me.

In case you haven’t see the latest Curb your Enthusiasm yet I am not going to spoil it but it’s title is “Lawn Jockey” which obviously has a big part in the show.

I probably haven’t seen an actually a lawn jockey since the early 80s and that was that house right down from the paper mill, in Springhill, Louisiana.

Not as common around me as they used to be but they are still around. I saw a pair last weekend about 15 minutes from the house. Its funny, almost all of them I notice now have been painted to look like a white person. I always think "ain't that a helluva note, a black man can't even get that job today without whitey beating him out". Still see the young boy fishing yard art around here too...again, mostly been painted white.

Central Georgia and South Carolina also. Most have been painted to look like white folks. I know a black man in North Augusta who has one in his yard...its not visible because he has set it behind the shrubs but its there. He keeps it there on the chance that someone asks him about someday LOL.

I think that was the original intent...to mimic having the means to have a servant awaiting your return home to take care of your horse. Had they originally been white or made to look like an actual jockey who have almost all been white in history it would not be seen as a symbol of racism...the reason they were not is because most people who would have ever had one would have preferred having a black servant over a white servant because of the advantages to the employer that situation would have included. Having a white man on your lawn awaiting your return home seems less respectable than a humble black man to those people who would want one on their place. Most of the ones remaining today are probably remnants from previous owners or the owner simply likes the traditional look of having one or a pair somewhere on the place. At 59 it seems odd to me to see an antebellum or even a small town mansion built when cotton was still king in the south without one...I fully understand why they do not have them but they were as ubiquitous for the first half of my life in those situations as dog wood trees and hydrangeas....
