When was the last time you encountered stale or moldy bread from the grocery store?

You know, as a kid it was quite normal to go to the grocery store once a week at minimum to pick up bread and milk, and also keep bread in the freezer to extend it’s life, but that’s completely unnecessary today as I simply cannot recall the last time I purchased a loaf of bread from the store and it went bad. Mold refuses to grow on it, and it just won’t go stale.
This nutritionist breaks down just why that is. I have to say that there is a really good reason we are not only the most sickly and overweight of first world nations, but also why so many countries ban certain foods from entering their countries.
ALSO…

Why do we have to get the garbage and UK can get normal ketchup?

Because we have a food lobby that allows food processors to maximize profits at the cost of everything else. Your government and regulatory officials are beholden to them, not you.

A few months ago I saw a box of sourdough bread in Costco. Half of the bread was blue. Dropped it off to the booth in front of self checkout.

These are the same thing fwiw. I'm all for removing HFCS, but to say this is a drastically different ingredient list is untrue in this case

Three ingredient bread at Aldi for the win

I usually buy the ‘Simply Heinz’ which of course is more expensive than HFCS, but the ingredients pretty much match the UK version.

Why the hell do those limey bastards get two doses of spice in the theirs?

I need to get a bread maker and make my own bread

Try hamburger buns. They won’t mold for a month. Scary.

When I worked at a retail store during college someone threw a Chick-fil-A sandwich on top of the back room shelves. It sat there over a year and never grew any mold or anything.

Honestly, I do make a decent amount of bread, mostly focaccia and ciabatta, and I’ve found it a lot smarter to just buy a good stand mixer that you can use for many other things, and some good loaf and sheet pans to pop it in the oven.

Yep, the US is better because you get choices.
If the UK had the same cheap access to HFCS, they’d be using it over there too.
Also, anybody ingesting enough chemicals in the bread to affect their health, is ingesting too much bread. Preservatives (in bread) aren’t the reason our nation is overweight and sick.

Someone give me the cliffs of what she says the best are at the end of the video.

If you buy bread like Bread Alone or something similar that's not packed with preservatives it will certainly get stale and mold.
People mainly just buy the cheapest, most preservative filled options.
Our lax FDA standards are absurd compared to the rest of the civilized world.
However, at this point, there are lots of natural/organic options on the shelves of most decent stores.
If you buy them instead of just sticking with an unhealthy famous national brand, that's your Vote instead of waiting on the government (even when they should do more).

moldy bread? yesterday. I went to make french toast to use up some bread we bought mid-last-week and had to toss a lot of the sour dough bread with a blue mold on it.

Lots of times. White mtn bread from Publix gets about 5-6 days and it’s done.

I once grabbed a pack of hotdogs off the shelf and it had a big human bite in the side of it. It was technically just deep teeth marks but the plastic remained mostly intact.
Does that count?
