Marc Fraioli, the current owner of Fred's, was also half-owner of Murphy's with Bennett.

I just assumed they were always there.
I wish Fred's would do a once a year Sr's night.

When I was at LSU, it was Faps and Zacharys in Tigerland, and The White Horse and The Brassrail on Highland north. Would occasionally make runs to San Souci in Port Allen and Chucks in Addis.

Where did you tie off your horses?

Sports was Sports Illustrated which was Barney's which was Punch n Munch. Punch n Munch was the early 1980's. Half of the place was video games, the other half was a sandwich shop. I don't know hat it was prior to that.
Zachary's, Baby Does, Scarlett O's, etc. was never the same thing for more than a year or so, it seemed.
Fred's was always Fred's while I was there.
Yep, I remember this very well from my time in Tigerland.
I didn't realize that those bars were fairly new back then.
LC
ETA: Hell, doesn't anyone remember The Bengal? Used to close that place down every now and then.

I knew a guy who took a dump in Murphy's bathroom one night.
To clean the floor, they used to dump about 3 inches of sand on the wood floors at the end of every summer. People walking on it would sand a year's worth of funk off the floor and it would be nice and clean for a new class of freshmen.
No love for TA's??? You could walk there from campus without having to cross a busy street and the drink specials were awesome.

What about the Bengal?
Walking into Murphys one night a full 12oz bottle of beer went over my head and hit the dude right behind me in the mouth, fricked him up. Good times.

This thread delivers. Cool history lesson on the LSU bars. I didn't realize there'd be that many name changes to ones not named Fred's.
I've heard tales of Murphy's, but that's the first pics I've seen

How come no one ever mentions the varsity in these LSU nostalgia threads?

Murphy's had quarter beer on Tuesday night and I used to get hammered on a five dollar bill.
Bengal was a great place and it was owned by Steve Bonfanti who owns all the Sammy's Restaurant real estate.
Fap was a great place and Tomorrow's was where I think it's Shadys now. Zachary's too.
But I've not heard mention of the Tiger Lair which was around the block from them in Tigerland. It was two apartments converted into a bar and all the hippies hung out there. Like me.
Chucks Bar was at the end of whatever the street Fred's is on now in the curve way towards the back. Another small cool place. This was circa 75-82 ish.

TAs had specials on Tue or Wed like .25 draft and $1.00 well drinks. Old Murps was fun but toward the end turned into fight club.

Murphy's was really a shitty frat bar that is now the subject of middle aged nostalgia
...anybody remember Mike's Bar and Grill on Sherwood? What the frick was that special night they had where you could get pitchers of hard liquor? Probably the only time I've felt I was minutes away from a mass riot.

In my day there was Sports, Fred's, the tiger bar and some crap Irish pub.
Sports still had "Sports Illustrated" sign up, but nobody called it that.
