quote:
The character was a vicious Ugandan headhunter with face and body paint copied from a Frank Frazetta painting. His backstory was that he was a former bodyguard of deposed President of Uganda Idi Amin who had been discovered by J. J. Dillon during an excursion to Africa.

quote:
James Arthur Harris (May 28, 1950 – August 9, 2020),[4] better known by his ring name Kamala, was an American professional wrestler. Nicknamed "The Ugandan Giant", Kamala portrayed a fearsome and simpleminded Ugandan. He wrestled barefoot, clad only in a loincloth, his face painted with war paint and two stars painted on his breasts and a moon painted on his stomach. During his ring entrance, he sported an African mask and wielded a spear and shield. He is best known for his appearances with the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) over the course of numerous runs in the company between 1984 and 1993.

quote:
Harris was born on May 28, 1950, in Senatobia, Mississippi, to Jessie Harris and Betsy Mosely. He grew up in Coldwater, Mississippi, where his family owned a furniture store. He had four sisters. When he was around four, his father was shot dead during a dice game, leaving the family impoverished. As a youth, Harris worked as a sharecropper to help support his family

I think he started in the Mid South wrestling that used to air on Sunday afternoons.
I remember being surprised years later when realizing he was from Mississippi.

Admins took my post with video clip down immediately yesterday.
Glad to see the reference up. I'm far from a fan of wrasslin but that was the first thing that came to mind when she was a senator

Andre had to give him some assist in that body slam above on video, but that’s still a pretty impressive task moving that amount of bulk.

I misremember him as the Ugandan warrior as well.
He was scary when I was a kid. I thought he ate people.

I was scared of him more than the rest. Grandpa used to take us down to the Centroplex (River Center) to watch wrestling.
Kamala, Junkyard Dog, Hacksaw Jim Dugan, Iron Sheik, etc.
