Why do Americans celebrate St Patrick’s day when they have zero idea what it’s about?

Christmas is not about getting stuff, especially cheap consumer good, Easter is not about eating candy, Halloween certainly is not about eating candy, and Thanksgiving is not about turkey.

We could go on all day but people like the chance to eat and drink with their friends.

Why do Christians celebrate Christmas when it is just a rip off of a pagan festival?

God invented whiskey so the Irish wouldn’t rule the world”

Anything involving the Irish will involve drinking.

I’m thinking that Irish American immigrants celebrated their native country on that day, and for the Irish that always meant celebratory drinking .it was the best excuse in this country to celebrate being Irish. Patrick was quite secondary to all this…

And Cinco de Mayo isn't a Mexican holiday so what's your point?

I thought green was always connected to St. Patrick’s Day because of his use of the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to the Irish Pagans when Christianity first came to the Emerald Isle?
