I always thought it was ginger-ale you are supposed to drink. Something about ginger makes nausea go away.

Not sure why but sprite works like a charm when I'm hungover and I can't hold anything down. There's been times where I couldn't hold down water or anything but I drink some sprite and I'm cured. It absolutely settles the stomach.

The carbonation and citrus cuts down on the built up mucus?

I thought it was because of its ability to hydrate intracellularly, without the diuretic effects that caffeine has in other sodas..

Water or sports drinks are the best thing you can drink when sick. I've never heard that drinking 7up has any benefits when you're vomiting.
