Why don't Corvettes hold their values better?

Chevrolets seem to hold their value better than most brands except for Corvettes, I see decent looking used ones from the 80's and 90's listed all the time for less than $10k.
"Classic" Corvettes also seem much more affordable than any other Chevy model.
What gives?

I’m no expert but most cars from the 80s and 90s are undesirable.
Although I’m thinking of getting a built fox body convertible mustang as a mid life crisis purchase.

because they are fiberglass unibody cars, meaning the body is the frame.
fiberglass dries out and cracks over time, 30 years is a very long time, if it sat out in the sun you might have to separate the body seams and reglue the seams, and then restore the fiberglass top coat.
it could be a steal if the body doesnt need work because mechanicals are cheaper fixes then bodywork on a vette

I definitely understand that but even 60's and early 70's models are still very affordable compared to other Chevy classic cars.
Also of interest:

According to research by Specialty Equipment Market Association and Experian Automotive, as of 2009, there were approximately 750,000 Corvettes of all model years registered in the United States. Corvette owners were fairly equally distributed throughout the country, with the highest density in Michigan (3.47 per 1000 residents) and the lowest density in Utah, Mississippi, and Hawaii (1.66, 1.63, and 1.53 registrations per 1000 residents). 47% of them hold college degrees (significantly above the nationwide average of 27%), and 82% are between the ages of 40 and 69 (median age being 53).

Rarity and desirability are what rules older used car prices. The C4 just doesn't seem to spark the imagination of a lot of people and there were about tree fiddy thousand made of them. Good sports car bargain currently. If you aren't planning to modify it I would spend a decent amount more on either a ZR1 or a Gran Sport as they likely over time will have a much better return although the run of the mill C4 is still a pretty capable car for its time.

Definitely makes sense

I assume in the 60s you mean C3s and not C2s.
C3s are not a huge draw but that era varies a huge amount based on how a car was optioned, true for all cars but C3 Vette buyers are very sensitive to the build sheet. When you are comparing them to other Chevys of the error don't make the mistake of comparing them to much more rare cars. I am sure you aren't comparing them to COPO Camaros but the cars you see bringing huge prices are usually not run-of-the-mill grocery-getters.

Because at the end of the day, they’re still Chevrolets. I believe the expression is “lipstick on a pig”

Nostalgia plays a huge part in the resale value of muscle/classic cars. Most people couldn’t afford a corvette new, or in the used market when they were young. Mustangs, camaros, and so on were cheap, and easy to find.
The boomers are dying off, or aren’t in the market anymore, and their kids, and grandkids grew up being able to buy those when they were younger so that’s what they look for to relive their glory days.

RM Sotheby’s has announced the sale of what may become the most valuable automotive barn find in history: 20 Ferraris consigned to the mercy of time in 1990, unearthed in 2004 when Hurricane Charley collapsed the Florida barn they were housed in, the cars were then rescued and relocated to Indiana and left to gather dust for another two decades

LOL...They are NOT unit body (or uni-body either for that matter), and they DO indeed have frames.
The C4 has a particularly large frame that you have to climb over to get in and out of the car. C5 onward are hydroformed steel frames; same technology they use on the pickups.
I hereby nominate "no frames / uni-body" for stupidest comment on OT today.

Get yourself an El Camino.
If I had been running GM back in the day( mid 60s), I would've made an El Camino type ride out of a Buick Riviera. That would've been bad arse.
