I’ve often wondered how the trash fanbase you see at nfl games affords the tickets

Cause it 's so much better .

I gave up on the NFL not long after free agency. It's shocking to me that so many people still care about it.

The South has always been college football, the Northeast has always been pro football.

Hurricanes have the most but to say the ONLY success in FL is there is a stretch
Hurricanes - 1983, 1987, 1989, 1991, and in 2001
Gators - 1996, 2006, 2008
'Noles - 1993, 1999, and 2013
You conveniently left out UCF's recent national championship, I see.

Can you imagine the shite show an Arkansas NFL team would be?

That’s all going to change with the current NIL/Transfer rules.

Tradition.
Tennessee was successful for more than 70 years before the Titans.
Florida has 3 schools and the only success was in Miami which is basically Cuba in location.
The falcons have sucked since their inception and so have the Saints other than a few years.
^this
Pro football didn’t really come to the south until the 60s. And even then it was limited to Miami, New Orleans, and Atlanta. I guess if you want to include Texas in the conversation, you could throw Houston and Dallas into the mix. When those teams were just getting going, college football was already well established across the Southeast. It wasn’t u til the 70s, 80s, and even 90s until you had a good number of professional teams in the South.

I hate people at work who are obsessed with pro sports/NFL. They obsess over what they’re gonna do on Sundays for the games. Who gives a frick. Worst is making it through fantasy football talk in the fall.
Well said! I don’t give a shite about Sunday football. I’ll maybe have it on in the background while doing chores but rarely sit there and watch an entire game. Don’t get me started on how serious people like to take fantasy football. It’s such a huge deal to them. Drives me nuts. They’ll ramble on and on about it but don’t even know the latest CFP rankings.

You can say oh it’s because these states don’t have a pro team but most actually do and CFB is still way more popular.
You left out the word *good* before pro team.

For me, I think CFB is a far better product than the over-commercialized NFL.

NFL - bunch of people not from the city, cheering for players not from that city or state.
College - fans from all over the state cheering for mostly players from the state.
To me it’s a no brainer. But I’m thankful for the NFL because it gives a way for players to make huge paydays.
To answer OP’s question, we have better players in the South. NewYork/ Chicago/San Fran etc would suck if they had to use players from their area.

Its because typically college teams are historically mostly made up of local players which leads to hometown and regional pride. For decades the main competition (conferences) was regionalized and the main goal was to win the conference and represent your region in the bowl game. Hence the tradition of routing for other SEC teams in bowl games. Additionally, a significant portion of the fan bases spent four years at the school and have an emotional connection to the schools.

6:26 am to Emteein Interesting to see if that holds up in the future with NIL, Bowl Game Opt-outs and Transfer Portals being a huge part of College Football.
Even with all the changes, I’ll still always prefer CFB over NFL. They will never take away the pride and pageantry that you get with the original SEC teams.
War eagle, golden band from tiger land, the crimsonettes, the golden girls, live mascots, the hedges, the attire people wear to the games, the tailgates, the rivalries. All of it. You just don’t get that with NFL. Sure there’s some rivalries but it’s not the same. There is just something about a fall Saturday afternoon when your campus and state just feels like the center of the universe.
It’s electric. You’re driving through campus and you see rival fans walking by so you yell out your war cry at them in an aggressive but harmless manner. You haggle and haggle these people all day and end up seeing them at the bar after your team beat their team and you buy them a drink and talk about the season and their teams traditions. It’s spectacular
