I've heard Loyola is the best law school in the state

The comment was made to me by Huntington and Southwood people, go figure. I lived right in between Southwood and Huntington.

Clifton Ellis Byrd High School. Probably wasn't doing so well when you would have been in HS is the 1975 date is correct.
I have friends that went to Shreve and Byrd I think as long as you were in the Magnet program you were fine.
In the Shreveport area avoid schools that end in -wood and -ton
ETA: oaks,park

So true. Shreve, Byrd and Magnet are all fine. I guess paying to go to high school is just such a weird concept for me.

Looking back I should have gone to Byrd or Shreve to save my mom that expense I had just gone to private school my whole life and most of my friends went to LCP. It really is what you put into a school. If you work hard at a school that might not be as prestigious as another the difference in resources can be overrated.

The ranking is not that low - LSU Law is a Tier 1 program - bottom Tier 1 but....also if you go to LSU Law, work hard and finish in the top 25% you can get a job anywhere in LA and go on to TX, too. If you finish in the top 10% you can probably go anywhere in the country. I know people from my class and a class above me that worked at the top firms in TX (TK, VE), NYC (White & Case) and CA. I worked at a firm in N.O. and now work in-house in Houston. Basically, you can do whatever you want if you work hard. The selling point of LSU for an in state kid is cost - its the cheapest law degree from a good school, good rep...LSU law has a good rep - especially in TX.

LSU Law is basically worthless outside of Louisiana,
well considering that 86% of the world's countries use a civil law based law system, one would think that in a global market econonmy that the common law learned in the other 49 states is worthless outside of the United States. LSU does a great job with teaching the civil law, and could really be a leader in civil law studies inside the United States. This could/should help train lawyers to better intergrate into the world market. However, there really isn't much an appreciation of LSU's civil training due to the lack of understanding on the part of the common law states in this scenerio. When looking at the rankings, one must ask himself...where is the location of the groups doing the rankings? Those rankings are done outside of louisiana, generally by companies in the northeast, and they have about as much insight into civil law studies as Brittney Spears on a night out on the town.
When evaluating a law school, screw the rankings of some magazine. Look at bar passage rate, help from the university placing grads in jobs, and the opportunity to learn the classes from a diverse background of professors, ie practicing lawyers, former judges, and intellectuals alike. Most importantly, how much it cost. Get the most bang for your buck.
In the end, LSU Law School is "ranked" fairly high in all those catergories I just named.

Not to mention our Ranking isn't terrible. I'm planning on going to law school so I've been checking out the rankings. I may go somewhere than LSU, but its not as if we are bottom feeding institution that everyone hates.

exactly. Out of the 196 ABA accredited law schools in the nation, there are approx 110 that are ranked behind us. Thats not horrible. Again though, I don't put much stock in the rankings as much as other folks do.

All the tuition differences etc. etc. are all really a moot point if you work hard, you are going to be rich.
