Why is MSY rental car shuttle so long?

I don't understand the route but shuttle takes for ever

The drivers have started using random routes, double backs and taking multiple left turns to prevent against car jackings. Your safety is paramount in New Mogadisu...I mean New Orleans.

I still don’t understand (i do, it was an Orleans parish project) why millions were spent building a new rental facility only to make it obsolete almost immediately with new terminal built.

You just walked out terminal
Now you go 15 minutes turning and doubling back when you basically just need to get to otherwise of property

Lack of planning. Severe lack of planning.

When they opened the new terminal, I had flash backs to the movie Planes, Trains, and Automobiles when Steve Martin is dropped off by the shuttle bus and his car is not at the spot he was given. He then has to walk back to the terminal on foot through the snow. He eventually has to cut through the runways.
When he gets back he has a Joe Pesci style conversation with the car attendant who tells him to frick off because he lost his receipt on the way back.
Now MSY is not that bad as the car counters are located on the same side as the rental garage. I just would have thought MSY would have utilized the private road connecting the terminals inside the perimeter fence to avoid having to get on veterans and the old airport connector road.

Even though it is in Kenner, it still owned by the City on New Orleans.
What more can you expect, but this being a total cluster fu&k.

I fly every week and I have never seen anything like the rental car situation at MSY. The first time I returned a car there I was returning a one-way rental and had not seen the new facility. It was not clearly identified and signs just stopped at some point along the way. I had to get out and ask someone at the departures drop-off. I was in complete disbelief as I drove the 20 minutes to get to the return location and even further dismayed by the shuttle back to the terminal. It is an embarrassment to Louisiana.

The route takes so long because it’s a distance away.
Part of the 2013 super bowl deal (Remember the game where Entergy screwed up the electricity), was MSY had to get a new rental car facility.
The decision to build a new terminal was not finalized until later.
They didn’t want to spend more money building another new rental car facility.

Just want to chime in about how terrible it is.
What is the long term plan? Assume something has to be changing.

Wakanda forever.
I spent a year in West Africa. I now have a better understanding of why things are the way they are. It's just how THEY do business. And now it's not them that's the problem. It's our patriarchal expectations.

The NOLA airport is in Kenner. A city with a less than 2 minute response time.

There is a tunnel under the airport. It's stupid they didn't redesign it for the shuttle.
Now the shuttle goes from the terminal to Bainbridge then right to the Glazer airport road. Then right on airport access. Past old garage to the rental cars.
Terminal D and the rental car facility were built/rebuilt for the Superbowl a few years back.

I had to ride this awful shuttle a few weeks ago. Bitchy bus driver, too. She insisted no more than three of us could stand up despite being a full bus, and - have you ever been on a city bus??? Lots of people stand!

There are lots of airports where it's a HAUL to get to the rental car place (hello, Denver!) and there's plenty where it's easy.
What's different about those places and here is that in the other places, it seems orderly, and it moves quickly from place to place.
To get from the terminal at MSY to the old terminal, it feels like the driver is asking a drunk hobo for directions and guessing at the turns. Eventually, you get there, but it feels like an accident.
In other airports, at least there's design to the trek.

This thread is a PERFECT example of how jaded you backwoods scared of Louisiana never been outside psychos are.
Has anyone flew to DFW to get a rental car? It’s awful, what about Baltimore/DC? What about MCO in Orlando? Those airports have WAY worse car rental situations but because there’s more black people at our airport, ours is disgusting and the worst design possible and basically is a third world African airport. You people are a joke.

Having to leave the property and go through back streets and then veterans is a joke and a total failure of planning. One small loop road inside the gates would have solved the whole problem.

It really is laughable how badly laid out it is. And on top of that, the signage is non-existent turning left off of Vets to get to the terminal.

In Orlando you have to drive through all the terminals to find your first sign indicating that a car rental place even exists. If it’s your first time, GOOD LUCK.
Ours is hardly efficient and most airports suck so I’m not here to say we have it great (AUS has it still connected to their airport, great setup) but there are other large airport with way worse setups.
For the last half decade at ORD the train line was down and they had broken down busses hauling people across property. And yes, they take the damn surface streets and highways to get there.

It’s fair to say other airports have crappy rental car situations too. Spot on about Denver.
However, when the airport was just redesigned you have shake your head. At least in Houston, Atlanta and Denver it’s pretty much a straight shot to the rental car lot. Atlanta being in a train.
