Driving to/from Ocean Springs and Gulfport from BR for work today and noticed probably 1/3 of MS plates are personalized. Is this something they just offer upfront when registering a vehicle or just low IQ?

Moved to MS last year, it still blows my mind. Has to be a record among the states.

They blackout MS plate is everywhere. You have to customize it to order it. They are everywhere and they made a fortune on the plate/reregistration. Two of our employees just registered their car and then went back and registered the car to get the new plate. Could have been a ploy by the state to increase some revenues by releasing a customizable plate.

Its not a very high number of signatures required to get a specialized tag for an organization. The org then gets a decent amount of the specialized fee ($53 total, I believe) back.

I don't know specifics but going off of what I have heard/pay for my MSU tag.

I think OP is talking about the ones where the plate is something like "IMABAW" instead of a random set of letters and numbers like "KAH 350".

The MSU, Ole Miss, Nurses Touch Lives, animal rescue, etc are specialty plates.

When the black plates with white lettering came out… the whole state went bonkers for them. And I think you can only get them personalized.

I seriously thought about getting one with my county 3 letter first part and random three numbers to mess with peoples minds thinking it was just a regular non personalized plate.

Well that makes sense and yes, there are an insane amount of those as well.

I just defaulted to thinking about specialty due to how many we have here as well. Local elementary schools have the damn things now.

No pics?

Seems pretty basic to me.

You're right, it's basic but our last plate design was so bad people just wanted something plain

No that's the newer one that came out this year. Go look up the brown ugly one that was used until last year

That's the new one being rolled out this year.

The one being replaced was/is piss yellow with the state seal. They defaulted to it because they couldn't think of anything else.

Here are the ugly ones.

I linked the ambulance version but the regular is the same design.

Per state law they change it every 5 years. They kept the BB King plates an extra year and then went with the ugly ones.

A car enthusiast from the coast came up with the idea and petitioned the state to make it. All his idea to be like Texas lol. I remember when this was going down on facebook a couple years ago. Everybody was tired of the piss plate.

Saw this thread and thought it has to be this strip. Moving to OS last year and everyday my commute to work is seeing trashy plates in Biloxi.

The black ones had to be personalized for a while…now I think you can get them numbered.

Why so many personalized Mississippi plates?

I was in central Mississippi last weekend and I was thinking the exact same thing. So many personalized license plates.
