I hope they do well there. I like B&N.

I don't really care much about shopping malls fading away, but book stores are different. They are a type of bricks and mortar store that we should try to keep around IMO. Glad Barnes isn't just completely dying and are trying to expand, even though it's going to be a smaller scale store than normal.
Smaller sizes enable them to open in smaller suburban markets and maybe eventually outside of their big box format.
I also like the 2nd and Charles store by Trader Joes. Worth visiting if you like book stores similar to the old Books A Million/Borders format.

Barnes & Noble plans to open a store in the former Bed Bath & Beyond space in Juban Crossing.
The bookstore chain will open its fourth location in metro Baton Rouge sometime this year.
The Bed Bath & Beyond building has been vacant since the spring, when the chain went out of business and closed all of its locations.

Books in Livingston Parish?
Doesn't seem like the right market.

The B&N's in Baton Rouge aren't busy as they once were but they still have a consistent clientele. My gf and my daughter(she's 16 ya pervs) go to both locations in BR probably 7-8 times a year, buying shite every time.
ETA: We go to the LSU location a few extra times a year but for LSU stuff on Game Days.

In Livingston Parish Public Schools, 52% of elementary students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 43% tested at or above that level for math. Also, 49% of middle school students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 38% tested at or above that level for math. And 55% of high school students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 36% tested at or above that level for math.
Slightly more than half can read proficiently.

They’re opening one in Conroe also.
Must be a push to get more locations in the region. I like it. BN is a cool place to go kill some time. Look at books, drink coffee, maybe buy one? But probably not.

There is a pretty big one near where I grew up that is doing really well. I thought the big bookstore thing was dead, but it looks like they have made it a decent study/gathering place with coffee and whatnot.

That's why they are opening a store. The LP just recently became aware of books. It is an emerging market. I mean, not like long chapter books or anything crazy. But coloring books, Pete the Cat, James and the Giant Peach. Stuff like that.

I love how we are all just pretending that the LP school system isn't miles better than the embarrassment known as Baton Rouge public schools.

I can already see demonstrations out front with the old guard vs the new guard in a year.

The one on Vets in Metairie stays packed.

Putting Starbucks inside B&N will go down as one of the more brilliant ideas in retail. Everyone assumed book stores would die off quickly.
People go in to grab a coffee, hang out, and end up buying a coffee table book about old castles or some such.
