Mandy Moore

Hotel Jerome bar, Aspen CO

2011

She was there with her boyfriend, it was a Tuesday evening, my wife and I were in aspen to ski and went to that hotel for some drinks, chatted with her and a friend for probably an hour, super cool and down to earth

She actually has a pretty noticeable lisp in real life, I don’t know if she hides it when she’s acting but during the course of a normal conversation, it is definitely audible

Not me, but from a good friend

He worked for a company in Santa Monica. They would often loan out conference rooms for non-profits to hold meetings

He was at the urinal and saw someone walk up wearing amber colored glasses

It was Bono

Jonas brothers came to my work and we had to let them in back doors and give them private access. Good dudes

That reminds me that I’m in a Jonas brothers music video. Was out roaming the French Quarter with my GF at the time and walked into a bar playing some Jazz music. Knew the guy working the door and he told me the Jonas Brothers were upstairs shooting a music video and he got us in. They had the St Augustine band marching down the street without playing. Just acting with Nick singing.

Bro, you should have asked her out for a drink. Shooters shoot.

Funny. I’ve thought about that in my fantastical musings over the years. Could I have had a shot at Demi Moore? On a random chance meeting? I mean she was very nice to a stranger and spent time in conversation with me, let me drive her car kind of, and I’m not the ugliest dude in the world. Was pretty fit at the time…

Then I realize I’m just an adolescent getting a hard on for Phoebe Cates taking off her bikini top in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

A little backstory: one of my good friends from back in the day has a tendency to describe people based on the closest person they look like.

So, anyway, him and I are sitting in a bar somewhere near Frenchman St. Buddy goes and takes a piss. About 5 mins later, when he comes back, he's all laughing, and tells me, in a severely drunken state mind you, "Dude I was washing my hands and this Nicholas Cage-lookin' motherfricker stumbled into the bathroom and fell in the urinal. Dude's fricking soaked in piss." He's describing the guy he saw, mind you. He doesn't actually believe himself what he just saw.

As he's telling me this story, I look over towards the bathroom door and, sure enough, Nicholas Cage himself is trying to low-key sneak out of the bathroom and out of the bar as quick as possible.

My wife and I were in Ft. Walton Beach in the early 1990s and went over to Navarre Beach on the way home for one last quick walk on the beach. We stopped at a secluded area and while we were walking from a parking lot across the sand to the beach we walked past Rod Stewart and two skanky looking women. They were all wasted. Rod looked somewhat like an anorexic skeleton and was drinking straight from a bottle of whiskey. We just said hi and walked past them. They didn't respond except Rod raising his bottle of whiskey at us.

Terry Bradshaw when I was a kid and put a crown in Jack White’s mouth about a year ago in Nashville. That’s pretty much it for me.

I walked past Dennis Hopper and his son in Dodger Stadium one time.

Sat in front of Marilyn Manson and Trent Reznor at a KISS show in NOLA in the 90s.

I also shuttled Kenny Loggins around town for a charity show.

Another Jonas Brothers tidbit - my daughter went to Joe's 20th birthday secret midnight roller skating party.

We met a number of politicians, pro athletes, film and tv actors and directors in those years.

Rode the popemobile with Pope John Paul when I was a in the protocol department of the Latvian foreign ministry.

I know a lot of celebrities from before they were celebrities.

The Karate Kid grew up around the corner from me (not really "friends" he was a few years older, but we hung out now and then, played street hockey, etc).

The Anchor of the CBS Evening news lived next door to me in my door at collge (Maurice DuBouis). Down to earth dude with a hilarious dry sense of humor. Joe Girardi (former baseball manager) lived down the hall but on the other side of my room. He was (is) the nicest guy.

I had a talk about drug and alcohol addiction (I don't have either problem but people I know do) with Alice Cooper at the Munich Business Class Lounge Lufthansa airlines.

When I was six, my dad and I were in line at Cracker Barrel in Zachary. David Carradine, who was filming North and South in St. Francisville, was in line in front of us. My dad told me that I asked him if he was Cane. Dad said Dave chuckled, but didn't reply. I do not really remember it.

I went to middle school with Stormy Daniels. We reconnected on Facebook and used to chat a lot.

Had a short discussion about the weather with Nick Cage when he lived in New Orleans. He was at Cafe du Monde in baseball cap and sunglasses. Didn't even know it was him until he spoke to me.

Met John Michael Montgomery, very nice. He was with a friend who had a fall at a restaurant and I responded out there. Didn’t transport but once done with his friend, we shot the shite a few minutes

Deanna Carter (sang Strawberry Wine) late 90s maybe? Met her about 15 or so years ago. Wife and I at a restaurant eating and she randomly paid our tab. Waitress told us our tab was paid and we knew the waitress, DC wanted to do it anonymously but we got it out of the waitress. Went and said thanks but didn’t want to hold them up as they were leaving. She at least seemed nice and genuine. Prob thought we were poor now that I’m typing all this shite out.

Sat on plane next to Devery Henderson. This was towards the end of his hey-day with saints. Maybe last season or year after he was done in nfl. He was a very nice guy also.

I saw Ryan Gosling at a grocery store. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Hey wasn’t this the same exact story someone or you maybe told about meeting magic Johnson?

Met Archie Manning at Mickey Mantle's place in NYC in the 90s (was in town calling a Saints game). Got his autograph for my mom.

Met Garo Yepremian, who was working at his daughter's chocolate shop. I thought it was him, and confirmed when I saw his Super Bowl ring. Got his autograph. Nice guy. Was flattered someone recognized him.

Saw Christopher Meloni sitting outside a Starbucks in BR a few years back. Was just low key chilling. Told him I enjoyed his work and left.

Shook hands with Edwin Edwards at the some event at the Governor's Mansion in the early 70s (was a wee lad).

Sean Payton in The Gap store in Mandeville, early in his first season as coach of the Saints. Was in there with his wife, and several other people in there said nothing to him as he patiently stood alone and waited. No cell phones yet to scroll, just standing looking around. They got in line behind us at the checkout counter, and as we left I turned, shook his hand and told him he’s doing a good job. Before pics, before cell phone cameras were a thing, I would have had to go to my car to get our pocket camera as wife and I were passing through from sightseeing across the lake.

The level of anonymity he had right then was interesting to me.

Met Earnhardt(RIP) and Junior at a meet n'greet in 1998. Junior signed my hat, gave it back to me, looked me right in the eye as I shook his hand and told him thanks. His dad was great as well. Got Childress's autograph afterwards. He was a little bit standoffish.

Bobby Labonte good guy. Quiet. Matt Kenseth same way. Short fricker. Joe Nemechek was a dick

Flying Lotus?

ETA: it works so much better with Gosling for some reason, although I hear he’s a great guy. Just kinda a smart arse too.

By your description of the encounter, I would have slyly asked if she’d like to get a drink some time. Maybe something like, if a boy wanted to buy you a drink, how would he get in touch with you?

Even if all you got was her number, you fricking won.
