Scotty is the king of hottakes. Sometimes useful information but in general he has a very old-school slant. He is very high on low specific output N/A engines for example. There is nothing wrong with that since they do tend to be reliable.

It’s a scam to say an ev gets a made up mpg so they pass government compliance measures.
This all has to do with government.
Take vaccines. If Joe Biden doesn’t try to ram them through OSHA, the push back isn’t as big.

If they are reporting the mileage per the same BTUs that are in a gallon of gasoline then I see nothing wrong with it.
