He is very high on low specific output N/A engines for example. There is nothing wrong with that since they do tend to be reliable.
Anybody who cares about having a reliable, long lasting powertrain that can be serviced and repaired without highly specialized tools does too.

It’s a scam to say an ev gets a made up mpg so they pass government compliance measures.
Maybe not to the same degree, but the auto makers definitely fudge the numbers on MPG with all of these twin turbo vehicles that are made now.

Scotty seems like a straight shooter from what I can tell. Clickbait titles for his videos to get hits, but I think he's a decent guy.

I watch/like his vids and will watch this one, but have to say his arm movements are distracting as shite!

If they are reporting the mileage per the same BTUs that are in a gallon of gasoline then I see nothing wrong with it.
Which is what they basically do. MPGe is based on 33.7kwh which is basically the BTU is a gallon of gas converted.

If you just commute a short distance to work and home, probably fine.
I use a EZ-Go around the neighborhood.

Scam? Probably not. Practical for many tasks. No.

Exactly. I bought an EV because I never drive my car more than 150 miles before returning to my garage. If I ever need to go farther I’ll use my wife’s car. Also, besides having the perfect mission profile, I have a two car garage with two 240V 50 receptacles and I don’t care that it is so expensive. If any of those things weren’t true I would not get an EV.
Another thing: the range on an EV is really a lot less than they say. You have to be more conservative about running low because you don’t have as many recharge options as ICE vehicles. And if you want to take proper care of that expensive battery you should not charge it over 80%. I would be afraid to go below 10% and I charge to 80%, so I actually only have 70% of my 290 mile range available - that’s 203 miles.

I don't know how those are calculated but I also don't see them advertised or mentioned really so I'm not sure why he rails on about it.

That is one of the several points Scotty made in the video.

He made this point too. An EV is like a gasoline vehicle that you cannot run below a quarter of a tank and completely fill up. You can only use 11-12 middle gallons of gasoline in a 20 gallon tank.

I thought most of the video was about inherent issues with Electrical anything.
Even beyond the headline/government angle.
I don't own an EV.
But what he said makes sense about lightning recharge to 80% and not letting the battery go below 20%.
The analogy being a 20 gallon tank with only 12 gallons being functionally usable on a trip.

As much as I hate the unearned smugness EV owners, I hate scotty Kilmer more.

No interest at all. I'll stick with my engine.

Everybody with 1/2 a brain knew this. They can’t even make an electric golf cart that last more than 18 mo. Without issues.

I agree. My travel car is a Lexus ES 330 with a N/A 3.3 engine with a specific output of 68hp/L. This one has over 435k miles on it and the only engine-related repair it has had is a set of coils at about 360k.
That said the majority of people don't buy cars with any intention of putting 500k miles on them and I am not remotely interested in that for our DDs because they tend to be boring vehicles to drive. I am not interested in tearing into a BMW engine with Dual VANOS or a 911 engine with VarioCam timing and VTG turbos. That is for techs with the right tools and a lift.
Scotty is an old school guy with an old school POV, if that aligns with someone's individual wants in cars then he is a fine resource.

Only an idiot needs YouTube to tell them that

Again, every major industry on earth is a scam on some level.
