It’s crazy that’s Baseball isn’t.
they should do like an U20 or something but it’s a big sport not just in the US but Central American, the caribbean, Japan, Korea and other EA countries.

Breaking can be done on the cheap in one relatively small venue.
The other two...not so much.

There used to be 27 full-time Olympic sports. For Tokyo, they decided to give an option where the host country picks 5 culturally relevant sports in addition to the 27.
Japan chose baseball/softball, karate, surfing, climbing, and skateboarding.
The latter three were all considered big hits and were added to the full Olympic slate starting with the 2028 games.
France chose to keep those three as well but moved surfing to Tahiti.
They dropped baseball/softball and karate as they considered those to not be culturally relevant.
So far, this is all defensible.
But they then decided to add breakdancing as their event
I would have guessed parkour to be honest. It would have at least been culturally relevant.

For LA, climbing, surfing, and skateboarding are on the full slate.
The culturally relevant sports are lacrosse, flag football, and baseball/softball.
Squash and cricket are also added although I don’t know what that has to do with LA culture. But no one will complain about these sports as they are real sports and not whatever the hell breakdancing is.
I assume cricket is a favor to the IOC to love ratings in India.
Flag football is the only one that has a chance at being a shitshow if we use bums who played D-3 football 4 years ago but filled out the necessary paperwork.

Not that crazy. The best baseball players can’t play and the MLB isn’t going to pause the season like the NHL does so hockey players can compete in the Winter Olympics.
And very few countries outside of North/Central America and Japan/Korea play baseball. Only 23 countries worldwide have competed in the WBC, for instance.
The WBC is far better than the Olympics would ever be. Our team would be Indy league type players and probably not even the best college players. Thats not very interesting.

I’m curious what happens in 2028.
Obviously lacrosse will send their A team for men and women. Same with softball.
Flag football, 3x3 basketball, and baseball?
Your guess is as good as mine.
I suspect there will be a grassroots push from MLB players and football players because of the one-off situation in LA.
Brisbane 2032 and something like Istanbul 2036 aren’t going to have those chances.

It’s just bad timing. MLB teams are in their playoff push when the Olympics occur. They’re not going to pause the season for 2 weeks for the Olympics. Thats why the WBC happens during spring training

But as a one off could we see teams that are out of the playoff race allow their players to be gone for 10 days or so?
For a team that has a .439 record and is clearly out of the wild card picture, I think it may be different, especially since this will not happen again for years.

Breakdancing seems on par with floor routine, synchronized swimming, dressage, and other silly sports. Not sure why it gets hate.

Highly doubtful
The 1996 games in Atlanta, our team was basically a bunch of guys right out of college ball. Zero major league players. It was guys who were just drafted or still in college
That’s why Cuba won almost every year it was an official sport

It would be really cool to see mostly college guys - the SEC and ACC alone put out some serious talent.

Or the useless Speed Rock Climbing.. I changed the channel...

Best players don't want to play during the Olympic schedule. I also imagine that baseball isn't easy to pull off internationally, considering cricket is a bigger deal globally and easier to setup.

You can see that every summer on the collegiate national team and the circuit they play.
