2 missing duck hunters on Mississippi River

I hope these 2 somehow found a way to the bank. The Mississippi River can be deceiving at places.
The search for the boaters began Thursday evening after relatives called the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks saying the pair put into the river at LeTourneau Thursday afternoon to go look at a duck hunting site near Davis Island. As of Friday evening, they had not returned or contacted family.
Pace said authorities believe the pair, described as a teenager and a young adult, along with their dog, launched from LeTourneau sometime after lunch Thursday. Pace declined to give the names of those missing, nor did he provide details of what items search teams have recovered.
“We found their truck and trailer still at Letourneau landing,” Pace said Friday morning. “Fish and Wildlife and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office had boats in the water until after 2 a.m.”
The search resumed at daybreak Friday, and authorities took a boat found by two duck hunters that was believed to be the one used by the pair adrift in the river near the Warren County/Claiborne County line.
Agents with the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks and sheriff’s deputies resumed the search Friday morning, assisted by two planes, a private plane owned by some people on Davis Island and a plane that had a Madison Parish (La.) deputy in it.
Deputies also searched Davis Island on the possibility the pair and the dog made it to the island.

I know one of them. This was posted 3 hours ago
URGENT PRAYER REQUEST to find these boys missing on the Mississippi River. Zeb Hughes and Gunner Palmer. I don't personally know them but I do know Zeb's mom Sharon. She works at my hospital. It's day 2 of searching. They went scouting for duck hunting Thursday. Letourneau Port near Vicksburg MS.
There have been planes, drones, boats, atvs, men on foot, but we will not give up. Hopefully today we will have people on horses searching as well.
Zeb and Gunner are very smart guys. We know they are doing everything they can to survive and find us like we are them!
A lot of things have been twisted.
They have NOT found Zeb’s dog Kye.
They DID find Zeb’s hunting bag.
They DID find a gun case.
They DID find two life jackets on a bank.
The boats motor WAS attached but torn apart.
The boat itself was NOT torn apart. Just scratched on bottom from hitting rocks and a few dents in the side were seen.
United Cajun Navy is currently assisting in a search. Teams are on the ground with dogs right now.

Finding the life jackets would be a big concern. I hope they were able to make it to the bank and ditched the life jackets.

The teenagers mom works for me. Her and her husband are very upset reasonably so. I can’t even imagine what they are going through. I believe the life jackets were found inland.

Don’t get the thought process of ditching the life jacket. Seems like an extra layer of warmth.

So they wandered off? Seems like staying along bank would be easier to be found.

Hate these stories. Was the boat found right side up? Like floating normal? Were the life jackets found on the bank together or apart? I mean like they had been taken off on shore or just fell out of the boat?
Sounds like there’s a possibility they made it to shore and lost in the woods maybe? Hopefully.

They are searching inland so I guess their thinking they tried to walk out. They found a boot stuck in the mud on the waters edge close to where the boat was found. I guess they searched around there and found the 2 life vest and backpack. Said it looked like they had been placed there.

Boat was found capsized with damage to the motor.

What’s the land like around there? I know it’s been cold but not a lot of places you walk straight east or west (away from the river) and it takes more than a mile or 2 at most to hit a road or house.

From what I understand they are in the Yukena area between Vicksburg and Port Gibson. Just looking at the map it looks pretty swampy. It’s hard to tell what there mindset is.

I’ve flipped a canoe before in a creek and thought we lost it. I knew exactly where to go to get out but it was a nasty hike. We started to plan the walk and then ended up getting the canoe back. It ended up just being stuck under a log.
But if they knew the area I can see them trying to walk out if they weren’t lost and knew what to do and obviously were in good condition. Obviously not good they’ve been missing awhile. Hopefully found soon.

So you’re hearing they’re believed to be across the river from Davis Island?
Posted on 12/5/20 at 2:08 pm to 257WBY
It was a cold rain Thursday evening. If they were in good health Friday morning, they could’ve walked to the sound of ATVs going out to hunt. The River is low, so walking out wouldn’t be all that bad.

The boot the found was not stuck in the mud. It was washed on shore. Also, the front of the boat is all scratched/torn up. They may have hit a barge. This is brutal. Not good news at all. There’s hunters all over Davis right now so they would have seen them by now if they are on foot. Prayers to this family.

If the boat washed up on the north tip of Middle Ground (which is what I heard but don't know to be true) then the accident would have happened in the bend above Togo.
Sounds like they either hit one of those rock weirs. Or, they lost their motor and ended up drifting and got plowed by a barge. Either way is a tough incident to survive.
The fact that the dog hasn't been found leads me to think it happened in the middle of the river. Like a barge collision.

It sounds like they were scouting for a place to hunt that evening right? Is cell reception good there? If they ended up hunting and the incident happened in the dark, I’d think they would have likely been on their phones at some point during the hunt so authorities would know? I guess what I’m getting at is it’s more likely they hit something at night on the way back to the truck after the hunt then hit something during the day right? Or always possible they couldn’t get the boat started after hunting and tried to walk out.
