AI stands for Ackley Improved. Basically the parent case is modified with a 40* shoulder angle, and less body taper. Thus results in more case capacity, better efficiency, increased accuracy, and less case stretch. All this was created by Parker O. Ackley who was a gunsmith and cartridge designer that lived in Utah in the 1950’s-1970’s. PO Ackley totally changed cartridge designs as I’m a huge fan of his work. Case comparisons after AI modifications. AI cartridges see an increase in velocity up to 150 fps

I built this custom 280 Ack Imp in 1994. 7mag velocity using 10% less powder. I’ve owned/built over a dozen Ack Imp custom rifles as the performance is real

That’s almost identical to the Browning .280 my cousin has had for the last 20 years or so. That is the only other rifle I really want.
