Affordable Texas Deer Hunts

I've been cruising google this morning and thought I would see if anyone here has any recommendations.
Seems like I'm finding a lot of Muy Grande hunts for $3000 or more, or shady management hunts that don't have much detail.
I just want to go kill a standard 115" 8 point or so and a doe one weekend for a reasonable price. Y'all got any specific ranches to look in to?

What do you consider reasonable?
That is going to be pretty hard to find. Your best bet will be looking for cull hunts versus management hunts...but even then they would probably rather let someone who just shot a 185" deer shoot a 115" deer for fun.
777 Ranch
They have a pretty good success rate from what I have heard, not sure if those prices are what you would consider reasonable or not.

$3000 is about what its going to cost you. Its been a pretty dry past few years in Texas.

look around, you will find something.. 2 years ago we went to kentucky and hunted for $500 per person and came home with a 9pt and doe.. saw 48 deer in 3 days. well worth the $500
last yr 8 of us went to ohio for $700 per person. came home with 3 8points and 6 doe. again, well worth the money
this year we are going back to kentucky with a different guy for $700 per person "lodging included".
just look around.. craigslist has some good ones through farmers and land owners. just look hard...oh yea all of those hunts were gun hunts

I raise longhorns, so shooting a Watusi(African longhorn) is out.
To answer your first question, I think a grand is reasonable if lodging is included. I can bring and cook my own food. I'm looking to actually hunt, not have 5 star dinners and wine in the finest lodge and ushered out in the field to shoot "bob" the hand fed buck.

I would search around craigslist then. Most places you will find on google will be high fenced and they will know exactly which stand to put you in to get the deer you are after.

If you do it right, you can get on a lease and hunt more than just a weekend for about $1500 or less. You just have to look hard. Call local real estate people in the area you want to hunt and see what they know. Also, hardware stores will have bulletin boards with this stuff on them in the store. Pick an area, find their hardware store or something similar and just call and ask them what they suggest. They may just read you one off their board.

If he has the time and extra $$ to put into a lease I would definitely go that route, but chances are you will be in a lot more than $1500 at the end of the deer season when all expenses are added up.
ETA I think this thread is anchored?

I appreciate the advice about the lease, but I just got off a lease I paid $1500 for, and when all was said and done. I spent more than 2 grand in lease cost and gas alone.
I have stands but I'm just looking to simplify as I only kill a deer or 2 maybe each year. So if I can do it in a weekend with little other expense I think it may be the best route for me.
