I'm ending up with 2 or 3 knives because of this thread

Received my Civivi Pintail in S35VN yesterday. It's a light knife, thin blade. Feels really good in the hand. The micarta handle is really grippy. Detent is a little tight but should loosen up. I'm taking it apart this evening and coating everything with mineral oil. Below is it up against my Boker Serge Panchenko. It makes the Boker feel like a tank. I was carrying the Boker to work but other than cutting open boxes of paper it wasn't really a useful knife. The brass handle gets really slick when bloody plus it weighs a lot.

I'll be ordering a Spyderco Salt in the next couple of months.

BUMP

So within the last several months, I've lost the three knives in my rotation, the Ontario Rat II, the CASE Mini Trapper in amber bone, Spyderco Polestar. I carried the Spyderco most of the time, and I loved it. Kept a great edge. I had the CASE for God only knows how long, and losing that one hurt the most. The Rat II was really just my beater knife.

So I've just ordered the exact same Spyderco and CASE to replace the ones I lost, and I was going to order another Rat II also, but I came across the CIVIVI Elementum while looking at the different Rat IIs, and I decided to go with it instead. Was at about the same price point as the Rat II. Its a bit smaller, which I don't really mind. So rather than get random reviews from people who may not know their arse from a hole in the ground, I did what I usually do, and googled "CIVIVI" and tigerdroppings. Wouldn't you know, there was a thread about these knives. It has the same D2 steel as the Rat II, and I look forward to getting it in and seeing the quality compared to the Rat II.

About a year ago I bought my first Civivi on a whim because it was a good looking design and on close out pricing at BladeHQ. I liked it so much that I promptly bought 4 more and can never decide which one I like best. I have the Praxis, Riffle, Kepler, Incite and Brigand

~2 years later I still carry the Civivi Pintail in S35Vn every now and then. I have ADD with knives so I don't usually carry the same one for long. The Civivi has been awesome.

I liked the looks of them and the steels they come in.

I handled several models at knifeworks but found that they were more clunky, thicker and heavier than the Benchmade's I'd been carrying. Thats somewhat to be expected given the price points.

Between that and them being straight up owned by the Chinese, I passed.

YMMV

They're good knives for the money, but I don't own one for the same reason. I'm not on a purist crusade and I have plenty of Chinese stuff, but for knives I make a little more effort to avoid China and get US made or at least US owned (I like Seki City Spydercos) when it's feasible. I wouldn't try to talk someone out of one, they're just not for me.

I have a Civivi Elementum and it’s an okay knife. I carried it for awhile but find the action gets where I have a tougher time opening it as time goes on so I have to pull it apart occasionally for deep cleaning the races. I also am not a huge fan of liner locks….I prefer back locks on most of my knives.

I like the Spydercos that have been mentioned and have a couple Spydercos, but they do have a cheaper line of knives called Byrds.

I like the Byrd knives for knocking around. They’re not as nice as Spydercos, but are much less expensive. I think they make one called a Rescue model you might want to take a look at. Cheaper and reasonable quality but if you lose it you’re not out a bunch of money.

That's precisely how I meant it. It might not have come off that way.

I carry mine every day.

Second one. Lost first one. Tied bright line on this one so I won’t loose it.

Thanks to the thread, I just bought a Civivi Brazen. Got the dark purple bc blue wasn’t available. Feels really good in the hand and is just what I hoped it would be. For $40, why not. I’ve been using a cheapo Smith and Wesson knife from Academy that just didn’t bring me joy. Life’s too short for ghetto joyless pocket knives.

I had a elementum for awhile but never jived with it. I only have one civivi left I think. Okay to good knives.

I have mostly Spyderco, Benchmade, and lionsteel and carry the Spyderco the most. They have so many models it's impossible to not find one in the profile and steel that fits you. I picked up a manix in maxamet for $72 during their factory seconds sale.

I would check out something like the salt 2.

Or and endura in s30v that's around $100 or less also.

I noticed a lot of Rat II carriers in this thread. I have a couple of them from years ago that I really like. I see they are AUS8, is the D2 that much better?

I sometimes carry one of their small flip open clip folders. It's a neat little EDV knife for $60 but I just prefer bigger, more substantial, autos or button knives.

I'll try to find the model of my Civivi.

QSP is a better knife maker, for the money, imho.
