A group of 4 of us have been to Illinois and Indiana the last two seasons. Illinois was successful with 3 of 4 getting decent bucks and 1 getting 139” 10 point. We’re looking to head to Oklahoma next season.
Any info you guys could share would be much appreciated. We plan to do our due diligence on research but the OB is a fountain of information. Thanks in advance.

The LSU hat baw does well in Oklahoma I think, but not sure if it’s on public.

He has a lease. I have hunted public in the panhandle of Oklahoma and private in the SE. Oklahoma is my favorite state to hunt whitetail, but public gets hit fairly hard these days due to social media. It's a great state with some huge whitetail. Put in the work, you can kill. It's not a sleeper state like it was 10 years ago.

It can be challenging to get away from pressure, even on larger tracks of land.

I've never hunted public land around here, for deer anyway. I know a guy that does the Weyerhaeuser thing in SE Oklahoma. They have a fairly large operation there.
I did get drawn for a managed hunt, but I had to go out of town that weekend.
I will say, that for bowhunting, I see trucks parked all over the roads around Lake Texoma that is Corps of Engineer property. There are a bunch of deer on Corps land but I'm not sure on the legality. But those Corps woods get hunted.
But check on the Weyerhaeuser and WMAs around Broken Bow, I think they do well and it's not too far from Louisiana.

I'm on a lease in Oklahoma with brother in laws in the Arbuckle mountain area. I haven't hunted public lands there but they grew up doing so and had a lot of success. There are several WMA's close to the red river, like Love Valley WMA that always produced quality deer as well as several around the broken bow area. However, they did say that the Love Valley and others close to river were starting to get a lot of pressure from deer and duck hunters. They believe the WMA's around broken bow get less pressure or seem to have less pressure because they are much larger areas. It's been 10-15 years since they hunted either area, so I'm sure the pressure has increased. Good luck.

OLAP is an option. They're trying to grow the access to hunting and it is often easier to OLAP than to add a new WMA to manage. LINK

Lastly, hunters now have access to hunt private lands through the Wildlife Department’s Oklahoma Land Access Program. A core principle of OLAP is to increase walk-in access opportunities for hunting, fishing, stream access, and wildlife viewing. This is accomplished through financial incentives given from the Wildlife Department to landowners who allow these opportunities on their land.
With properties located throughout the state, hunters have access to hunt a variety of seasons and species.

Just trying different places and like to see new country.
We’re going to put in for Kansas and Oklahoma is the fall back if we don’t get drawn.
