Anyone ever use flex seal inside a toilet tank?

Had the ghost flushing problem and my limited internet research on my American standard was to replace the flapper unit. Doesn’t have the traditional flapper. Part was fairly cheap on amazon and I got it installed last night. Had to also buy a new tank to bowl rubber gasket. But when I put it all back together, noticed a small leak at the bolts. I remember the same thing happening after I had it installed. My guy came back and worked on it and it’s been fine for 6 years. Thought about buying new washers and bolts for it, but also just tempted to flex seal around the bolt heads and be done with it. The design isn’t that great. I checked the other two toilets in the house and they’re more normal. There is a little gap between the bowl and tank even when the bolts are tightened down so not sure why that is.

Just get a new gasket and do it right. Otherwise you may get a wet floor.

It’s not the gasket. It’s the bolts on the tank to bowl connection.

To tight on the bolts holding the tank down. And yes, there should be a small gap in between the tank and the base.

Had that problem at my old house. I used a silicon gun and just covered it in clear silicon

New tank and hardware kit is like $24 at Lowes. Imma go that route.

Thanks fish. I don’t think it’s too tight. I was worried about cracking the porcelain so I didn’t crank on it. Hand tight then a couple of turns with the screwdriver. I put the flex seal on it and waiting for it to cure. It said 48 hours but I’ll probably turn the water back on in the morning. That will be around 36 hours.

Yes, I have. I had a small crack in the tank from over tightening the bolts. It resulted in a very, very slow leak. I used flex seal about a year ago and have no leaking since. I did several layers and went significantly further out than where the crack was.

I'm about to do that to mine. But god damn, I cannot use 5200 without getting that shite everywhere - all over me, a bunch of towels, my boat and stuff in it. Little white streaks all over the place. .

Yeah I replaced the rubber washers. The flex seal is holding. Listened for about an hour now while relaxing and no water cutting on in the tank.

I've used to repair a punctured boot and torn waders. FS has held up like a champ.
