I know they are made by carolina skiff. my dad is looking at a 19 foot center console with a 150 Honda. Now before you tell me how many other brands are better fishing boats, he is not looking for strictly a fishing boat just looking for something he can fish, ski, or just cruise on depending on the day. this boat would be pretty much perfect for all 3. here is a pic:

You're opening a can of worms here, asking for opinions on boat makes and models. Only thing worse is asking about motors. But with that said, I'll start...

It's a POS.

It isn't very nicely trimmed out, and if you push on the side of the hull...it's like an aluminum can compared to a lot of bayboats.

I don't own a Ranger, Champion, Skeeter, or anything like that. But I do own a boat that is equal to those in quality, nicer in fit and finish, and about $10K cheaper in price. And to top it off, it's manufactured in MS.

Nautic Star.

He might wanna look at them. There are different models of Nautic Star though. They have tournament editions that are 102" wide, compared to their other models at 92". I have the 102" boat. The fit and finish on the 102" boats is as good as it gets. Every single thing is stainless, flush mounted pop up cleats are standard, more fuel capacity, more live well capacity and bait well capacity, not a stitch of wood anywhere in the boat, you name it.

This should be the first thing done when looking at a boat. If there is anything besides a very solid thud, don't even consider the boat.

Great boats and great value.

Here's a pic showing the flush mounted cleats, and a metric buttload of specks from that "Quick Fitty" spot I showed you earlier.

Here's the livewell...with an occupant on tourney day. It's very deep and wide. None of those rubber straps holding down the hatches. Stainless steel flush mounted everything.

I almost forget, one of my favorite features of our boat. In the floor insulated fish box.

And here's a picture of the latches I'm talking about...and a beautiful 9+ lber, that would've been great in a TX tourney with a 28" max.

Nautic stars have had their share of problems as well. Buddy of mine is dealing with a cracked transom on his right now. I would think Sea Chaser is on par with nautic star in regards to fit and finish. Hell I fished a cheap Sea Hunt 20' center console for 10 years with no problems and was 50hp over rated Beat the piss out of that thing on Lake Pelto.

Lol, how far was it dropped? I can guarantee you we've put ours thru hell with even stressing the hull.

I would've believed you, since there are always exceptions, but I couldn't help but laugh when you compared the fit and finish of a Nautic Star to a Sea Chaser. That's a joke, bro.

I would like to know which model he has. As I stated in my earlier post, the 102" models are finished out as nice as any bayboat on the market. The same doesn't hold true for the 92" hulls, such as the 1810, 1910, 2110. They are the lower end Nautic Stars. The old 1800 and 2100 are too. The old 1900, 2200, 2400, and tourney editions are all 102" boats, and are top notch in fit and finish. They also don't cave on the sides of the hull like some boats. They are very sturdy. Dunno about the lower end Nautic Stars.

Didn't realize they had two different lines in nautic star. I wasn't impressed with the 21' I fished. My cousin only kept it a year or two before getting a triton LTS

Ours is an 2006. At that time, these were the upper end models.

1900 (we have)
2200

They later came out with a 2400, and then 2200TE and 2400TE.

The lower end models were

1800
2100

And then they made some mid range models.

1910 and 2110.

I think they have an 1810 now.

The 1900 is no longer made to my knowledge, but it, along with the 2200, 2400, and the TEs all were 102" wide with larger fuel cells, bait and live wells (lighted), flush mounted everything, stainless everything, raised lighted consoles, in-floor fish boxes, hidden rod storage in the gunnel, huge front storage, etc...very nice. When we would go to tournies, (tour was sponsored by Ranger), the other competitors were highly complimentary. I've been on a bunch of Rangers, and although you can get everything the Nautic Stars had, a lot of it was optional. I have several friends with the Ranger 2000 (20' Bayboat), and the Nautic Star 1900, although about 10K cheaper, is much more well equipped straight from the factory. And like I said, there's exceptions to every rule. I know Ranger is a good hull, but one of my buddies has gone thru two hulls without even fishing a tourney in it. His friggin console came off WHILE HE WAS DRIVING!! He likes to say he's "Breaking legends, one at a time". It was just a factory gaffe, and Ranger replaced the hull no questions asked, both times.

By the way, Triton's are awesome...love the lines on that boat. But they're just too expensive, and they aren't very shallow draft, although they claim it. That's not necessary for most people, but when fishing tournies, it's imperative to be able to get into, and out of, very shallow ponds.

Looks like Nautic Star only makes the 2200TE and 2400TE in the format I'm talking about. They have a rolled gunnel boat , the 190 RG, the 2110, 1910, and 1810.

The 2110, 1910, and 1810 are all 92" boats. The 2200TE and 2400TE are both 102" boats equipped as I stated, like ours.

They make something called the 210 Coastal that looks kinda like the Sea Chaser in the OP. It has a 98" beam. They also make a 2110 Sport, whatever that is.

meh...to each their own. I'm not a fan of nautic star boats. Good boats, but not my one of favorites.

Sea Chaser is decent. Good entry level boat in price and quality.

Like with everything else, you get what you pay for.....Tons of boats on the market in the 19 ft range.....there is no perfect boat. Find what you like

In no order:
Blazer Bay
Pathfinder
Kenner(Mako now)
Frontier
Nautic Star
Blue Wave
Triton

ETA - I own a Frontier 210

Of the ones you listed, how many are 100% composite? I know NS is, I know Frontier, Kenner, and Blue Wave (except for that 24 footer they came out with) are not. I think most if not all Blazer Bays are 100%, as well as Pathfinders and Tritons.

Wood rots, so I would automatically remove the ones that aren't 100% composite from the list. Other than that, Blazer Bay, Pathfinder, and Triton are excellent hulls.

Now price 'em against a NS.

I personally think the Frontier and Triton are the best LOOKING hulls.

I plan on going with aluminum from here on out. I can't stand trying to keep a scum line off of fiberglass not to mention keeping gel coat free of chips/scratches. Fiberglass is prettier but I like the durability of aluminum. Not much to pick from though unless you are willing to build your own.

The bottom of ours looks like it's been dragged across 1000 oyster beds, because it has.

Wow, this thread looks exaclty like what I went through two years ago. Ulitmately ended up with a Blazer-pretty satisfied so far. All the others mentioned are great boats IMO.

Wanna know why I wouldn't even look at a Sea Chaser? Who the hell thought writing
By: Carolina Skiff
on the gunnels was a good idea?

Besides having bad punctuation on a $30,000 boat, it's like saying Truck By: Ford

I figured if they weren't smart enough to use the right punctuation, laying good glass might be a stretch. But, for what you guys are going to do and where your camp is- I've read some of your posts- it'll be fine.

One thing- they only give a 5 yr. transferable warranty on those. Blazer's is lifetime and 10 yrs. to the second owner. If you want some other options, look at Blazer's website and there are always some used ones on the forum.

Good Luck!
